Not sure how I feel about this. Suppose it's good kick-start to the national conversation. But taking two weeks of paternity leave spread over three months isn't exactly an earthshattering commitment to your newborn, is it?
The New York Times@nytimes

Shinjiro Koizumi, a politician seen as a possible future Japanese prime minister, said that he would step back from his duties to care for his newborn child after the birth. It is a move heavy with symbolism for Japan’s workaholic fathers. nyti.ms/2Ts4B19

@CareerDadUK I agree with most of your statement: fathers not being equal co-parents is definitely holding back #GenderEquality @ home, in society and in the workplace. BUT, I’m curious what you mean by “barriers”. Is it someone else’s fault that we can’t be equal? I’m not sure that’s true.

Policy versus what families want and need: “when men do take time off for parenting, research shows that the benefits to themselves, their kids, and their families are immense. However, they're concerned they'll be penalized at work if they take time off” psmag.com/social-justice…

Me: [quietly wondering why my six-month-old has been ill so much lately] My Two-Year-Old, immediately after crawling all over the floor of a dirty train carriage: “Look Papa! The baby can bite my fingers!!!” 🙈🙄🧐 #NoSherlockRequired

It's Friday night and I've just wrapped up week four of my #ParentalLeave. What do I have to show for it? Today I sneezed and for the first time in his life, my little boy didn't immediately burst into tears! #WeAreBonding FYI I sneeze like Chu: loud and calamitous! @neilhimself

So true! Many employers are sympathetic, but none are mind-readers. Ask ask ask!! 👇👇🏽👇🏿👇🏻 “Take a leap of faith and ask for what you need; be it from your team or your senior managers - you may be pleasantly surprised and you could even help re-shape the culture at work!”

Fathers are too often overlooked during the transition to parenthood, despite their conflicting desires to spend more time with family whilst upholding professional aspirations ow.ly/p9SA30pYEd3

2/ We need to talk about the hard stuff too. I don’t want any dad out there to feel like they’re doing parental leave ‘wrong’ if they feel upset or angry sometimes. It’s okay, and sometimes you end up better for it. //

1/ I've got a new post from week two of my #ParentalLeave, all about getting angry with my baby: buff.ly/36rGF1v To be honest, I wrote it last weekend but wasn't sure I wanted to share. But this morning, I realised we can’t only talk about how amazing parental leave is.
