Great question about #housingaffordability, just frustrating to hear people equating small homes w bad homes - loose language so unhelpful . Great course-correction from Jane Higgins: affordable and liveable and beautiful are absolutely doable and straightforward. We got this.

Phew, here's the facts 👇, and agree it's just really disappointing from @NZStuff wanting to be "the news" of our capital city. Perhaps symptomatic of the current editorial bent but this is pretty shameful.

Extremely impressive work from KiwiRail yesterday to clear the track and reopen the line so we could get our Metlink trains running again the same day. Much respect and thanks to all the workers who were out there moving debris and completing the checks to make things safe.

#RailNews: KiwiRail has shared a photo of some of the flooding the Wellington region experienced yesterday. The photo was taken yesterday morning at the slip site just south of Paekākāriki.

Fantastic stuff right now on @SaturdayRNZ about how cities thrive (vs survive) and how to use music! including the vital night time life. We need to make cities we want to live in *all of the time* including night time, but also when there’s not a formal gig/concert on

It can seem a bit superficial in the face of bigger issues, but I think local, street-level design and policy choices are among the most important decisions we can make. thespinoff.co.nz/politics/20-08…

@BigFunk__ @nashthomas We gather: because insufficient maintenance on the rails. When it's colder or hotter and the steel wants to contract or expand, they need to be well maintained for the flex not to matter. But we haven't done/don't do enough to meet the "don't worry" threshold. #Rail nerds, help?

@nashthomas Hi Thomas, just wondering if you can advise whether there is a specific reason why trains can't run if it's too cold or too hot (which is a not infrequent occurrence)?

July bus ridership is up 3.4% on 2019 pre-covid numbers with 2,329,681 bus trips taken last month. Am a bit surprised at this given July saw a 10% increase in fares, significant Wellington job losses and winter hibernation vibes. Bus use still very strong and continuing to grow.

Time's up for Stride. In September I'll be bringing a motion to Council to investigate how we can use the Public Works, Urban Development and other acts to finally see progress on Johnsonville Mall. thepost.co.nz/nz-news/350369…
