@E_Friendly_ @rtenews Yep......but if you factor in 22% of votes were for neither candidate.....push that through to the total electorate - CC possibly has represented 18% of population! There by default!

@rtenews Please report figures accurately. 45% turnout. 22% of those who voted - voted for neither candidate. So CC got 48% of the votes cast. In a 2 horse race this is not a resounding victory. This needs to be pointed out for balance! These are facts.

@IanJCrowley @paulmurphy_TD More importantly .....Catherine Connolly has objected to a huge number of infrastructure improvements - including housing developments ,Galway ring road, the hospital in Galway etc. It is this type of behaviour which causes huge delays in planning- hardly advocate for change

@paulmurphy_TD You have lost any moral authority to talk about housing by supporting someone who stood in front of a judge and argue for taking people’s homes away. You don’t have the ability to have a knowledgeable discussion on any other topic listed above.

A landslide for Catherine Connolly and an historic victory for the left. When left unites, we can win. Now we need to deepen co-operation to mobilise people in defence of neutrality, for OTB, on housing and cost of living. We need major conference of left to discuss next steps.

@paulmurphy_TD If you take into account the spoilt votes - the votes for non existent candidate - the turnout - Catherine Connolly only represents at most 20% of population. ( if you carry through spoilt votes to the total electorate this % would be lower again.)Elected by default unfirtunately

@paulmurphy_TD Only 42% turnout. 22% of those who voted either spoilt their vote or voted for a non existent candidate. So in a 2 horse race she got 48% of the total who voted. Hardly a resounding victory. 22% of votes were for neither candidate! So a very very low bar has been set.

@paulmurphy_TD A woman who had to think for 24 hours about whether she would employ a convicted rapist - while going out of her way( sidestepping garda vetting) to employ convicted arms dealer ( who NEVER admitted guilt). Not representative of vast majority of Irish people. Not Presedential.

I voted for the hope offered by Catherine Connolly, not the fear campaign of FG. Get out to vote by 10pm to take an important step to real change - kicking out FF/FG and having a left government that serves the renters, not the landlords and the workers, not the corporations.

@elizavalido @Aidan_Regan does not answer important questions- a master at Fudging! She gets flustered when interviewer tries to pursue her, not let her away with dodging question- and then she accuses them of being unfair???Pathetic-not representative of so many Irish people.

@Aidan_Regan Catherine's full, sincere, well-thought-out answers are not what the government and its allies want to hear. They prefer a tow-the-line answer in keeping with their Neo-liberal agenda. HH is ideal for those type of answers and letting us know about her dog and toaster!

It’s difficult to tell whether it’s her barrister’s training or her calm, deliberate communication style - but Catherine Connolly exhibits a remarkable capacity to outmanoeuvre interviewers with quiet precision.

@kevigi She totally "managed". Never gives a straight answer for difficult questions, constantly deflects. Interviewers need to be persistent to try to get ans to what was asked. She constantly fudges, gives prepared ans - totally stage managed. Electorate see through constant fudging

@KatieGHannon @RTEplayer great to see an interviewer finally trying to get Connolly to answer question asked. She constantly deflects, doesn't give straight answer when questions difficult. I found it very interesting that Catherine stumbled when she couldn't deflect. Electorate not fooled by fudging

Catherine Connolly was asked many serious qs but was also asked if her husband would have a public role; if she’d bring pets to the Aras; her cats’ names; if as a former triathlete and keepie uppie champ if she would do a Park Run or a marathon. It’s all on the @RTEplayer
Roisín Connolly 🇮🇪 🇵🇸@Conn32Ro

@thehardtruth_ @KatieGHannon @IrishPolithick @RTEplayer Well, really, whether it was 1st, last, or in the middle, she asked that fluffy question of Heather. There were no fluffy questions for Catherine. And look at the difference in body language between the 2 interviews.

@GreallyHelen @catherinegalway Great interview. She was asked straight questions- wouldn't answer them. That's why interviewer persisted. That's what audience wants- answers to the questions- not a smile and a dodge. Surely CC can do better than this?Or dies she think her "answers " will lose votes?!!

@colmhanratty @VirginMediaNews Great interview - she was asked straight questions ....has consistently refused to answer them- deflects & dodges. About time an interviewer followed up when she didn't answer it was same on RTE yesterday. When CC is put under pressure to answer she can't or won't.

This interview is a bad look for @VirginMediaNews. It’s like the brief to Colette Fitzpatrick was three words long - ‘Take her down.’ Nothing about policy or looking forward. 30 minutes discussing accusations. Dreadful stuff. #TheBigInterview

@catherinegalway But you have been "stage managed"- you're smiling and dodging questions- the worst type of politician. You should have the courage of your convictions- answer the questions! Simple!

@catherinegalway Can't listen to much more of this interview....so you can't come straight out and say that Russia invaded a sovereign state and that was wrong. There is no grey area here- smiling and saying the question is ridiculous - is an insult to audience!

@catherinegalway You are underestimating the electorate lecturing us on "rehabillitation". Would you let anyone who has not received garda vetting work in a school? Let alone someone who had served a prison sentence? The place to rehabilitate someone convicted serious crime is not in Oireachtas

@catherinegalway Rehabilitation is not achieved by simply serving a prison sentence & being given a job on release. If that was the case there would be almost No reoffenders! This is about zero judgement on your part. Rehabilitation involves admitting error of ways, the person pleaded not guilty!

@catherinegalway Not answering the questions! Terrible judgement bringing in someone convicted in Central Criminal Cpurt into Oireachtas- definitely security risk. You never even questioned why garda clearance wasn't forthcoming! You don't know if she ever got garda clearance? Dreadful.
