Talok Capital
@TalokCapital
Talok is an early-stage venture capital firm investing at the intersection of creativity, consciousness and culture.

@darrenmarble Tell us a story of a time you were fired?

Additionally, any IRL event you host will expand your "network effect" in subtle and immeasurable ways. All guests can become tighter connections, which creates a flywheel effect that helps your business grow. This is particularly important in "relationship businesses," like VC.

The flow of information is bi-directional here, too. A hackathon specifically built around consumer design and taste opens the doors of perception to how people in the field (engineers, designers, etc) think about the issue. Gives you a read on where consumer AI could be headed.

Also, early-stage investing is competitive and funds need to stand out in a crowded market to "win" deals. Hosting a hackathon is a chance to show off what makes you unique. Not only how you "host" an event, but also how you think, what it might be like to work with you, etc.

First of all, venture funds host hackathons because they attract ambitious builders. This gives firms "facetime" with potential founders before they even start new companies. It's like when a college football team hosts a summer camp for students; helps develop the "pipeline."

One of our friends in Boston asked why we would host a hackathon in San Francisco built around the concept of taste in consumer design. Wanted to post here for aspiring fund managers and people active in the ecosystem so anyone who wants to can get a glimpse behind the curtain,

New interview with @FOS: @jakepaul and I dropped by @FanaticsFest to talk sports, investments, & venture capital. 6 years ago when we founded @antifund, none of our athlete friends had heard of venture capital. Our thesis that attention is more scarce than capital, and cultural relevancy is just as important as technical expertise is now consensus true. I'm excited to see more and more athletes wanting to learn how to wield their cultural power to secure equity and generational wealth, and Anti Fund will continue paving the way. frontofficesports.com/videos/jake-pa…

Really strange to me how much of venture has become preoccupied with short-term wealth accumulation as opposed to long-term value creation. Today, we celebrate fund managers and startups “getting their bag,” while concerns with true “quality” have largely fallen by the wayside.

Hosting a small hackathon on 7/23 (5-10pm PT) with @cheyoungahn. We'll kick things off by talking with @qianjiang___ about taste, AI and design. We're only able to take 20 participants for this one :) Sign up below! luma.com/talok-xkgp

it's lowkey embarrassing not to have entrepreneurial ambitions / want to be a founder these days
