"oMg ur fRoM gUaM???" Roughly 738,383 times I've heard this, between my first year at Stanford and my months in SF. I don't mind, though. It's kind of nice being the first person from Guam someone's ever met. 🇬🇺 But Guam deserves a little more love. Read in full here: linkedin.com/posts/cheyoung…

What time during the day do you find to be most productive? I was surprised by how many people said late night to early morning. I’m so excited to meet other night owls on July 29th 9pm. We have very cool speakers for the event too 👀 Only 10 spots remaining luma.com/vo06qzbz

bay area is humbling. turns out we have this office tradition where everyone wakes up early and hits the gym at 6am every day, with one day off on the weekend. the gym we went was packed from teenagers to elderly people, everyone looked jacked and healthy af. and the first conversation i accidentally eavesdropped on was two uncles talking about startups. i recently shared paul graham’s “cities and ambition” essay, where he says that in great cities, even the conversations you overhear can push you in a certain direction. starting to see what he meant in real life.

@borrasque_ That’s so cool! I also moved around every couple years before coming to Stanford; I lived in Seoul, the countryside of Korea, NYC Queens, Guam and now here! I never got to explore this city while in Palo Alto but sf is so one of a kind.

i lived in 6 different places across my life before moving to sf 0-5: on a farm/my hometown in central china 5-10: went to boarding school in a very rural area surrounded by mountains and farmland in china 10-12: immigrated to canada and lived on a small island province 12-14: moved to montreal where i had to learn how to speak french fluently 14-18: settled in toronto and finished elementary + high school 18-19: ann arbor, michigan to attend umich sf is by far the most beautiful place i've seen in my life. my family never traveled, as it was always way too expensive anyways, if you are in sf and into startups, tech, and building, drop a comment and let's connect!

Out here in the real world, no one is grading you. But it's hard to shake the feeling that I need a polished, finished product before I can speak up. But that’s absolutely not true. Explaining how you think is what helps create those opportunities. People want to get to know YOU not just your achievements before they trust you.

Only a week til @ycombinator startup school here are 3 things I am taking away from this week: • action before thoughts — overthinking is self-sabotage • consumer startups aren't dead. generate unique human data. depth > shallowness • you're not "not ready." you're just scared. post anyway. next week is gna be full of so many more!

weirdly underrated work skill: - tell people what you’re going to do - do it - tell people you did it

I love to see a passionate founder or emerging GP. I actually don’t think you can be very good at these jobs in the long term if not top decile passionate. But you only have so much energy and time in a day. Why waste it being mad at someone who did you no wrong?
Evan Buhler 🎸@evanbuhler

I’m noticing a lot of misplaced passion in venture lately. Founders angry when an investor passes on them; GPs mad that someone else got funded. The list goes on ad infinitum. It’s so great to feel passion, but it’s a mistake to make a random person the object of that passion.

Being active on X is underrated A week ago I had ~60 followers 60 → 100 took a day 100 → 200 took 3 days 200 → 300 took another few days The win isn't followers, it's meeting builders, devs, and people who enjoy learning and sharing If you're in tech, I'd love to connect🤝

Does anyone know a venue like @UseCorgi Cafe in the city but less hacker, college dorm, tinkerer vibes and more contemplative, mystical and literary energy? Looking for a late night spot to read some books.
