@ashdgandhi Not sure where 784 comes from, and I think the strike is dumb, but 50k a year is not great. It’s also heterogeneous by department— health policy has no summer stipend and years 3-4 stipend drops to ~12k per year and your TA wage makes up the difference

I'm a former Harvard PhD student. Based on my experience, current social science students probably make a bit over $250k + healthcare over 5 years, with just 784 hours of required TA work. That's almost $320/hour for the "work" and the rest is classes and your own research.

It’s Monday the 11th and so far there is no evidence for any hantavirus infections in anyone who was not on the ship but had contact with someone on the ship anywhere in the world. There is a US citizen ship passenger with asymptomatic positive result newsweek.com/hantavirus-asy… There is a Spanish citizen ship passenger with asymptomatic positive result now. reuters.com/business/healt… There is a French citizen ship passenger tested positive and is "deteriorating" after experiencing symptoms and told it was "anxiety" theguardian.com/world/2026/may… We have weeks to go before the incubation period is up. This is why contact tracing is so important But there are no confirmed cases outside of the ship.

If you come to Singapore City and wonder why there are so many China Chinese immigrants rather than native born Singaporean Chinese in the city: Most China Chinese live in the city or near the city area. You have to venture further away from the city to find more local Singaporean Chinese. How to spot the difference between us Singaporean Chinese and China Chinese? - China Chinese speaks Mandarin only. Singaporean Chinese speak English more than Mandarin - Our accents are different - China Chinese dress more fancier than Singaporean Chinese. We dress casually - China Chinese do not know Singlish or Malay and Tamil words. Singaporean Chinese knows. (Unrelated, but one way to tell the difference between Singaporean Indians and India migrants is local Indians would speak Tamil while migrants would speak Hindi) - China Chinese are louder when they speak. Singaporean Chinese are quieter and prefer to not make a lot of noise in public - Even our facial features are different. Singaporean Chinese usually have larger eyes than China Chinese. - China Chinese usually avoid mingling with other races. Singaporean Chinese are relaxed with the other races. Just try not to disturb us when going out of the city.

@tadkiyokawa For major cities(e g., NYC, Boston, SF ...) 20% is somewhat a minimum nowadays. It goes up to 25-30%. Additionally, good restaurants also expect additional tips for kitchen staff (where kitchen staff may not take any out of the tips for servers by law).
