Terrible news from Tehran: I just heard that the Iranian authorities today arrested the great human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh. It's not known where she has been taken. Nasrin has been mentioned as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize for her unflinching courage and moral leadership. I hope thought leaders worldwide will call on the Iranian authorities to release this brave woman who represents the best of Iran. Her husband, Reza Khandan, is already in prison serving a sentence for advocating for women's rights. Iran should release them -- and all political prisoners. It was wrong for the Shah to imprison people for peaceful expression of political views, and it's wrong for the Islamic Republic to do so today.

We are seeing a growing number of voices in Iran who, often with equal urgency, denounce both the regime’s brutality and the American and Israeli attacks. In their social media posts, which they share despite the immense difficulty of simply accessing the internet inside the country, you can feel a deep sense of disappointment, confusion, and exhaustion. This is a heartbreaking moment in Iran’s history: a society caught between two opposing forces, and in the process, being crushed into suffering, destruction, and death, while feeling there is no viable path forward.

Grew up between two versions of Iran. My mother spoke fondly of the Shah and that era. My father, a scenographer who smuggled a communist magazine on his rolls of film, despised him. They agree on this, though: both reject the regime, the 'crown prince' and both oppose this war.

@GNRailUK There is no current information about how you are getting passengers home beyond Royston. Only passengers asking when buses you promised will arrive. Is it not a contravention of H&S if no-one cam communicate with passengers on a moving train?
