Iran should learn from India if they want to be a nuclear power. And they need a best friend like Russia, as India does. In 1971, the US sent nuclear warships to the Bay of Bengal to intimidate India. Russia replied with submarines from Vladivostok. Americans turned around and went home. India tested the bomb. The US cried and built the NSG to punish India. India kept building anyway. Vajpayee ji tested 5 bombs in the desert. The US slapped sanctions. India did not blink once. That same US came back, hat in hand, asking for a nuclear deal. This is what happens when you have indigenous science, zero fear and a best friend called Russia, which shows up when it matters.
