Progress in the fight against malaria has never depended on a single solution. It takes multiple tools working together to stay ahead of the disease. As Krystal Birungi highlights, new insecticides and emerging tools like spatial repellents are expanding how we protect communities and reduce transmission. At the Gates Foundation, we work with partners to develop and scale a range of interventions, from bed nets to new innovations, so countries can respond with the right mix of tools for their context. Science is advancing faster than ever, and ending malaria in our lifetime is a real possibility. From new treatments to next generation nets, to vaccines - new tools and pioneering technologies are in development, adding to an ecosystem of interventions already saving lives.

Access changes everything. For Krystal Birungi (@XtalBirungi), growing up meant navigating the realities of malaria at home. When prevention and treatment became available in her community, it changed what was possible. Fewer illnesses, more time in school, and a different path forward. That experience now shapes her work in fighting malaria.
