Quake and the Lovecraft connection. An early gift I got for Adrian Carmack was S. Petersen’s Guide to Cthulhu Monsters, illustrated by Tom Sullivan (who later worked on the Evil Dead series). Adrian really likes it, and it was a useful tool while we worked on Quake. Doom was Hell. But Quake didn’t have a coherent mythology, but was just about an alien dimension overlapping our own. So adding some Lovecraft made sense. 1/5

This is part of the reason i laugh at people saying she was a nobody or just someone who "made light criticism of games". She's ground 0 for the state gaming is today because she was the spearhead of the intersectional feminist movement. By doing what she says here she tricked the entire power structure into buying the whole ideology. The media, academia, studios, developers, and ultimately politicians all switched to woke stupidity practically overnight because they thought that was were money was at or they saw they could use this to virtue signal. Trench Crusade is a great examples of cool designs with no proper lore to back it up. It blew up bc of it’s amazing designs and art. It got people invested into it bc of these aspects. However as we tried to get into TC it became clear that the lore was terrible and inconsistent and no care was put into it. This is why it flopped. If 40K didn’t have good and fun lore and only had overpriced miniatures and cool designs and art it would’ve ended up like TC. Lore is essential.
