There are a few reasons why the Olympics broke Canadian hockey spiritually and now physically. Of course American players being boo’d and criticized after winning gold for their country is a factor, but also let’s face it. It plain sucks to play in Canada where you’re getting pick pocketed vs. Southern tax-friendly markets.
As I have said before in my video on the Maple Leafs, the decline of hockey culture in Canada parallels with decline in general. Not winning a cup literally in my life time (93) for our “national sport” cements it.
