This #LaborDay, I would like to honor all the unpaid, unrecognized labor of #caregiving and #motherhood. Without this unpaid labor, a paid workforce isn’t possible.

Summer parenting: Finding random bruises on your body from days spent in the pool while your not-so-little children climb on you like baby monkeys and you try not to drown. But the thing is, I wouldn’t trade these moments for anything. And that pretty much sums up #parenthood.

@cplleadership Yes! And for those of us whose leave became more than temporary (I was out for 9yrs caring for my children and my ill parents), I would say the same. My years spent caring were not a “break” by any means, but rather a time of intense skill development.

@katehasthoughts @romper Absolutely! I agree. The narrative on motherhood has shifted, and I’m struggling with it. Motherhood is hard, and we shouldn’t shy away from saying it. But it’s beautiful, too, and that part is getting lost. Prompted me to write an op-ed a while back: nj.com/opinion/2022/0…

@katehasthoughts @romper Love the bare honesty and vulnerability of motherhood in this piece. I feel like the media is filled with cheering and “thank God they’ll be gone” themes around back-to-school, and sometimes I wonder, am I the only one who doesn’t feel this way?

@herandrews As a millennial with an adv. degree who stepped out of the workforce to care for my parents (both of whom fell ill in quick succession) and my young children, this piece hits on some fundamental truths of my experience. Women are stigmatized (by feminists) for prioritizing care.

So proud of @BrookeSiem, whose book comes out Sept. 6 (and can be preordered!). We’ve been friends since we were kids, and I can say “I knew her when.” She’s a chef (Chopped champion!), an author, and more. I am so happy to see her writing out in the world. It’s much deserved.

So I haven’t been super public with this, but my last day at Barkley was today. The team there is amazing and they’re hiring and if you can snag a chance to work there, DO IT. My next adventure starts Monday and until then, I’m going to forget I even know what email is.
