(This isn't against Beowulf) Having an antagonist "face their punishment" doesn't feel like enough because "ooooh nooo they're locked away forever 🥺" is like...okay and? If they're truly evil they won't give a shit that they're caught. They needed to be tortured and killed.

Almost no story actually does this, just because the antagonist isn’t killed in cold blood for your personal satisfaction does not mean they are forgiven or just getting away with it Death is often an easier way out for these characters than actually facing their actions
