@desireefixler He should call for an election instead. It isn’t just Starmer being repudiated. It’s all of Labour. This was a vote of no confidence in the entire Labour government.

@JohnPretty2o2o @RosieP4 How much of uk farmland is high quality? What %, cus im very confident its nowhere near 100%.
If you think not building houses will bring down the price of houses, while acknowledging there are more and more people, that seems quite silly.
English

The quality of the land is HIGH.
We do not need this frankly cynical destruction of productive farmland.
There is no housing crisis. House prices are high because of the cheap availability of credit in the early 2000s and have been artificially kept high by allowing high inward migration of persons from overseas which keeps demand - and therefore prices - high.
Building more and more ugly new builds WILL NOT solve the problem of high house prices.
And creating buildings for more and more and more people puts increased pressures on infrastructure and services.
English

I think this is your 5th 'reset'? Each time you think you know what voters want but you don't. In particular when it comes to nature and the environment. Voters do not want devlopers to be allowed to pay cash-to-trash habitats and create 'new nature' miles away. Voters do not want countryside in the Green Belt relabelled as misleading 'grey belt'. And voters do not want the sky high targets you're imposing on rural areas.
Keir Starmer@Keir_Starmer
We must respond to the message that voters have sent us and break with the status quo once and for all. We must confront the big challenges the public face with real answers. That is how we will deliver the change that people are desperate for and build a stronger and fairer country. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
English

@Georgeos61 @RosieP4 Big question, they'll all be case specific decisions to be made locally, but I'd empower and reward people for backing more building where its good and proportionate, and beneficial.
English

@pbrian1960 @Georgeos61 @RosieP4 And im sure land on-site, nearby, and/or land elsewhere in the region or country can be improved through BNG through the developments. Lots to do to improve new housing quality overall but if folks are living in the houses you describe i won't begrudge them.
English

@Tazee_k @Georgeos61 @RosieP4 Take a trip round Cheshire or Staffordshire, large areas of prime farmland on the outskirts of towns are now covered in housing, most of which “executive” type homes.

@RosieP4 What's the quality of that farmland?
I dont think you're wrong about that, but as one of the most nature depleted countries on the planet, you're kidding yourself if you think its all worth protecting. We can build a lot, and improve the rest and still be better off than now.
English

@Tazee_k We have analysed it, done a report and have a tracker. A tiny, tiny % is brownfield one. The rest of so-called grey belt is countryside, farmland, meadows. The grey belt term is a lie
English

@Georgeos61 @RosieP4 And compared to neighbouring peer countries we have less empty housing stock than we should, making it much harder to retrofit and improve them because most houses are occupied. There is some great work being done to bring empty or derelict homes back into use, e.g Canopy Housing
English

@Georgeos61 @RosieP4 There are literally countless programmes and funding pots to support developing brownfield sites, its disingenuous to suggest that isn't happening, you batter your own credibility saying so.
A fair amount of our farmland is now in poor condition through intensive farming too
English

@aligreen9999 @RosieP4 We have a lot of countryside, which has sadly been brutally degraded in many places over the last several hundred years. It is possible to both build and improve nature recovery at the same time. We shouldn't sacrifice progress in one area for progress in another.
English

@Tazee_k @RosieP4 Lots of countryside is being built over. ⬇️ We need much smarter housing policies including more social housing, higher taxes & council tax on 2nd homes and re-purposing empty properties in towns & cities.

@Tazee_k No. Grey Belt was one of Starmer’s biggest lies. It is countryside, meadows, farmland

This headline makes it sound as if the Reform Cllr wanted Nigerians to do the road maintenance.
The actual quote was “the amount of Nigerians in town.
Should melt them all down and fill in the pot holes!!”
How on earth could Tice not bring himself to condemn that?

@JigarShahDC @OurWorldInData The point is buofuels are an incredibly inefficient use of land and that is completely true.

Fiona Bruce, "But you know you have to declare it in the 12 months before you become an MP"

@PJacquerie @GHWTowler You can determine so much from hair colour? 🤣🤣🤣

@GHWTowler And not a pink or purple hair-do in sight. Real people in other words, not a bunch of dope-smoking weirdos.

@KeithHorner13 @AlistairCarns The fact you have no idea whats been delivered says as much about your willingness to be manipulated as anything. The fact you want to bend democracy to the way you like things says some more. Election will be in 2029, and Starmer won't lead labour through it. Another PM will.
English

@AlistairCarns Utterly meaningless waffle. “work to deliver for our constituents”, “deliver properly”, “keep moving forward and keep delivering”. Deliver what? The same as the last two years? The only useful “delivery” would be a prompt general election.
English

Tough election results for Labour and no point pretending otherwise.
People are frustrated, and with good reason. We need a serious look at where policy, delivery and campaigning are falling short.
We also shouldn’t kid ourselves that Reform or Green slogans amount to a serious plan for the country. They don’t. The challenges Britain faces are real, difficult and long term.
The Birmingham Council is now more ‘split’ than ever before, but regardless we will continue to work to deliver for our constituents across these new challenges.
The answer is not more noise or easy answers. It’s having the courage to take difficult decisions, deliver properly, rebuild a country that is secure and resilient.
To all the Labour team, tough times don’t last, tough people do. Stay focused, keep moving forward and keep delivering.
The aim is to lay your head on your pillow in three years and be confident that we did everything in our power to make the United Kingdom the best it possibly can be.

@callnoutcrap @EVPuzzle @celtic_switch And yours are based on incorrect assumptions and deflection lol, lil botty bot.
