90% of parents won't encourage their daughter to become an engineer. Can you see an engineer in your little girl?

Enjoying listening to stories of the overreaction of school administrators in response to today’s earthquake. Robocalls and texts. Panicked sounding voices over PA. What else ya got? I give credit to anyone that responded calmly and appropriately minimally.

Schools and Gov’t: “Everyone’s different, we believe in differentiated instruction, one size doesn’t fit all.” Also Schools and Gov’t: “here’s the core curriculum for everyone, we’re giving you all the same exact tests, and here’s the list of courses everyone needs to graduate.”

Current teachers are a hugely important group in recommending new students for the future teaching workforce. But, politicians and school administrators have made teaching into a profession that they wouldn’t recommend. The pipeline is shrinking and no one’s doing anything.

Just because you take away barriers, it doesn’t necessarily mean that people start running into the space that they once divided.

Schools reflect far more 19th Century tradition than they do what’s needed in today’s society. I said 19TH CENTURY as in 1800’s…not even the 1900’s. Slowest institution to change. Imagine something like banking using 19th century methods.

There are four more opportunities this year for Open Houses at the TCNJ Engineering Dept. All include breakouts at 11:45am for students interested in teaching. Please share the info below. Great conversation starter for those HS teachers that can help ID candidates.

If you believe in an education system that’s so HEAVILY predicated on sequencing and activating prior knowledge, you’re basically saying that ONE bad year can ruin the learning of any student. How many of you are 13 for 13 in years of good teaching and learning in every subject?

There’s barely enough time to properly groom and indoctrinate the children when there are SGO’s to write up…

When you think back on all the crap you learned in high school…how much of it is relevant to your life today?

Nothing sets the tone for a great school year like long meandering rants about grayish school laws by school attorneys. 💪💪

I made this video a few years back at an Antares rocket launch from #wallopsisland in Virginia. I still think the 3D sound with headphones on is pretty legit. youtu.be/K6za6j-61lg

In the U.S. you’re innocent until proven guilty…except if you’re a teacher lately…then you’re guilty until proven innocent when a parent or student accuses you of something.

There are two types of school administrators and you can’t be both. One cares about students, staff, curriculum, and community, and is creative when it comes to caring for all of those. The other cares about who’s following the state rules, and pleasing the board of education.
