These types of veiled threats by @stephenasmith are familiar forms of retaliatory journalism.
He gets called out for gossip mongering, and being hella messy, and what does he do? He threatens to use his power and resources to dig up dirt to discredit those–particularly Black male athletes–who are either critical of him or systemic oppression. It makes sense that he feels like he is qualified to run for president of the United States. Because a lot of his character traits overlap with homie in the White House right now.

Trump sued his own IRS for $10 billion over leaked tax returns.. then settled with his own DOJ.. and the settlement created a $1.776 billion taxpayer-funded fund to compensate his political allies
the president filed the lawsuit.. the president's DOJ settled it.. the president's allies collect the money.. and you're paying for it
the fund covers Jan 6th defendants.. Mar-a-Lago raid claims.. the Russia investigation.. anyone who says they were a victim of "lawfare" can file a claim and get a check
they named it the "Anti-Weaponization Fund".. and made the number $1.776 billion.. they even made the corruption patriotic
in 1974 Nixon resigned for using government agencies against political enemies.. in 2026 the government is cutting checks to political allies and calling it justice

Here’s the Stephen A. Smith playbook on dealing with Black male athletes in his crosshairs:
1.He says something slick about your character and couches it in sports.
2. He threatens to attack you with his reach via ESPN if you respond.
3. He pulls in other Black men, normally former athletes with “credibility,” that he helped secure a job at ESPN via First Take, to join him in attacking said person.
4. If public opinion sways against him, he gaslights the audience by making it seem like he always supported the person he disrespected, cherry-picking moments when he had positive things to say about indisputable truths.
I’ve seen him run this play before and he will run it again.
