@MrsSpalding @mrstinac @tombennett71 I like this being ‘our way’ and (as ever) it goes back to the strength of culture within a school being directly linked to expectations of students and consequently their behaviour

@TeachTheTeacher @mrstinac @tombennett71 What I do know is we don’t have a big long list of ‘If you do X then we will do Y’. What we do have is clear expectations of conduct that are consistently reinforced.

I’m leading Headteacher’s detention tonight: two hours after school on a Friday 😬 Out of 1800 students we have just one student in which does, at least, suggest it works. @tombennett71 would be proud.

@mrstinac @tombennett71 We have a mega simple centralised system of positive and negative points. Negative totals result in automatic detentions of increasing length staffed by TLR holders and SLT. Repeat offenders get SLT detention. Final sanction is Head’s detention staffed by Head (or DHT).

New Half Term, new ways of working. Our running the day meeting is now a lot more about reflecting on the day before and, in specific terms, how will the day run today. This is to allow us to run the day, rather than the day run us. I’ve added the first version we used in March!

🧵 To support our PSHE programme, our form tutors deliver some of the PSHE content to their forms. This is delivered via seven PSHE weeks across the year. Students have 4x20min sessions across the week. During the half term break, I have been creating sessions and booklets…

@ProudlyPastoral @TeachTheTeacher Teaching could learn a lot from sales. An old friend of mine went through sales school at IBM and as he described it over the weeks it struck me how appropriate it was for teachers. All about treating the customer well.

I’ve had a handful of moments where, as a parent, I’ve been spoken to inappropriately by school staff. Pretty much been treated like a pupil and it stays with you. As a teacher I’ve never had any CPD on relationships with parents. Food for thought. thetimes.co.uk/article/no-bik…

@ShakinthatChalk Now, more than ever, training on how to make calls home etc is needed. Parents can be confrontational, aggressive, make vexatious complaints...it can be hard getting a HoY position with 0 experience calling home, to then be expected to make difficult calls.

@leilanathoo I run a small business and regularly work 12 hour days and 60 hour weeks. I don’t get 13 weeks holiday a year either. So what!
