AFP Chief of Staff Emphasizes ASEAN Unity at Maritime Security Symposium Emphasizing the importance of ASEAN unity in addressing evolving maritime challenges, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo S Brawner Jr. took part in the Maritime Security Symposium 2026 on April 10, held here under the theme “Maritime Security in Southeast Asia: Navigating Continuity and Change Through ASEAN.” In his remarks, General Brawner underscored the importance of unity among ASEAN member states in regional stability, “ASEAN has always drawn its strength from unity of purpose. That unity must continue to guide us not only in preserving what we have built—but in shaping what comes next." The CSAFP further highlighted the role of the symposium as a platform for meaningful collaboration and collective action among regional partners, “Let this symposium serve not only as a venue for dialogue, but as a shared commitment to act with clarity, to cooperate with purpose, and to uphold a maritime domain that remains a source of stability and connection for all,” he added. The Maritime Security Symposium, launched by the Philippine Navy in 2015 as part of its anniversary activities, serves as a vital platform for maritime stakeholders to exchange insights on emerging issues and strengthen cooperation toward a safe and secure maritime environment, while reinforcing the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and promoting regional stability. AFP supports West Philippine Sea Mural Festival with camp-based painting activity The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) supported the nationwide West Philippine Sea (WPS) Mural Festival through a mural painting activity held at Camp Aguinaldo High School, Quezon City on April 9, 2026. Conducted on the 84th commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan, the activity brought together uniformed personnel, students, artists, youth groups, fisherfolks, local government units and civilian volunteers who collaborated on mural pieces. The artworks reflected Filipino identity, coastal life, environmental stewardship, and national pride. As part of the broader festival, the initiative opened AFP spaces as platforms for creative expression and meaningful public engagement. This year's theme, “Kulayan ang Karagatan para sa Kalayaan” (Color the Ocean for Freedom) underscores a unified resolve to protect our seas for the benefit of future generations and the preservation of our national heritage. Renowned muralist Amado Guerrero “AG” Saño led the event as the festival director while Filmmaker Baby Ruth Villarama and representatives from the Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, Department of Transportation and the Department of Interior and Local Government also took part in the live painting activity. In support of the nationwide effort, AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S. Brawner Jr. earlier directed military camps to “paint the seas on their walls,” encouraging artworks that highlight the country’s shared heritage and stake in the West Philippine Sea. The AFP’s participation in the mural festival supports ongoing efforts to promote national awareness, strengthen community ties, and foster a shared understanding of the West Philippine Sea as an integral part of the Filipino identity./// Photos by: SSg Joel Manzano PA/PAOAFP #AFPyoucanTRUST #OneAFPOnePhilippines #StrongAFPStrongPhilippines #OurSeasOurRightsOurFuture #MatatagNaSandigan 🫡🇵🇭
