Autonomous shuttles have hit the @AtlantaBeltline! 🚍 ATL Spoke launched in June, providing a connection between the West End MARTA station and Lee + White with free, ADA-compliant electric shuttles operating every 12 to 15 minutes. This 12-month pilot marks the U.S. debut of the e-JEST shuttles from Turkish manufacturer Karsan, managed by autonomous transit provider Beep. This fall, a second phase will extend the route to the Atlanta University Center. When Sam Bracken boarded a plane in Las Vegas to attend Georgia Tech on a full-ride football scholarship, he had been experiencing homelessness since the age of 15 and could fit everything he owned in a single orange duffel bag. “In my orange duffel bag, I had a few pairs of jeans and some clothes packed,” said Bracken. “But what I had also packed were my hopes and dreams.” A foundational moment in Bracken’s journey at Georgia Tech was training with Coach Bill Curry, who provided coaching and care both on and off the field. Inspired by the support that he received from Coach Curry and driven to help others, in 2011, Bracken co-founded Orange Duffel Bag Initiative (ODBI), an Atlanta-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides ongoing advocacy and certified life plan coaching to support students in need to achieve their goals. On Saturday, July 11, overlooking the very stadium, steps, and field where Bracken and Curry trained, celebrated wins and losses, and faced life's challenges together, 150 ODBI program graduates, coaches, and community members celebrated 15 years of community impact. 📜 Daniel Beecham spent years in consulting grinding through RFPs, the slow, high-stakes proposals that decide who wins the work. That grind became the idea. 🐝 His company, Propagent, uses AI agents to run every stage of the proposal process for AEC firms, from intake to final draft, so teams can chase more of the right work without the last-minute scramble. “In cryptocurrency hacks, your balance can become zero in a matter of seconds,” said QED Audit founder Woosun Song. “At QED, we allow people to move fast, but not break things.” Starting a company has always been a goal of Song’s, and competing with the winning team in DARPA’s Artificial Intelligence Cyber Challenge in August 2025 gave Song the opportunity to launch QED, whose work seeks to prove that blockchain can be trusted 🔐 At DARPA AIxCC, instead of humans competing directly, when the contest begins, humans step back, and the AI agents they developed start looking for software bugs on their own. “It’s a completely isolated environment for AI,” said Song. From LZRD Tech to Vettex Sports: this CREATE-X company didn't build its brand from scratch, it built it on @georgiatech ties. When Vettex partnered with longtime distributor Markwort Sporting Goods (a family business run by three generations of Yellow Jackets), they got more than a new name. They got decades of brand history to build on. Now Vettex gear is on the field with 60+ university and high school programs, including Georgia Tech Athletics, plus pro athletes. CEO Mike Pullen is also a med student, and he says that combo shapes everything from product design to the claims they're willing to make. Georgia Tech researchers recently got $2 million from the @USDA to develop something that's never existed before: an oral bird flu vaccine chickens could eat in their feed. No more injecting every single bird. Just a probiotic pill mixed into the flock's food. The team is using AI to design viral proteins that trigger immune responses in the gut, building on existing human flu vaccine research. Given how much H5N1 has disrupted poultry supply chains and driven up egg prices, the stakes go beyond the farm.
