I would genuinely love for this to happen
but many people think that OpenAI and Anthropic are already in a positive feedback loop
and as we have seen with Gemini 3 Pro: a ~5 trillion param reasoning model won't magically be AGI
(or for that matter a 6T param Grok-5)
my base case is that OpenAI and Anthropic will pull further ahead
xAI has less compute, less researchers, less data (no Codex, no Claude Code) and does not have access to models that literally speed up research (behind ~6 months)
Google on the other hand is still in the race, being only ~3 months behind. they have the most compute, researchers, an infinite money glitch and the data

Everything in marketing is image design, even the behind the scenes stuff, a lot of it is fake, including for Apple

if steve jobs were alive, apple's neural engine would be 5 generations ahead and every keynote would be about "the personal ai that never leaves your device". he deeply knew that privacy is a philosophy. he would have made local inferencing such a religious crusade that your ai would know you intimately and no openai or nvidia would ever take it from you. tim cook treats ai as a checklist, he is late to llms, late to the shopping spree. but jobs would've dominated the ai race. just like he did with mac, ipod, iphone and everything beautiful that he built in his lifetime.

the fact that OpenAI opted out of this themselves says they're very committed to hardware and I wouldn't be shocked if that ultimately includes a phone (the alternative would be they knew Apple thought they were inferior and wanted to save some face)

Inside the White House, there is effectively nobody arguing against strikes on Iran, with Rubio arguing Trump has to do it or he loses credibility, I’m told.
That means the only opposition is coming from outsiders like Bannon and Tucker and allies who are opposed, like Saudi, Qatar, and other regional partners.
That’s a heavy imbalance, suggesting strikes remain likely.

Imagine how it felt for us on the inside ~2017 thru Covid working on Orion and knowing deep down that VR was niche with no reasonable prospect for mass growth… All the while knowing that the Glasses were years away.
We knew we had 5 years to build a super light/secure OS for glasses, build custom silicon for glasses, etc. Threw it all away so that VR OS and AR OS’ could be fully aligned cause we had to move faster… Turns out that ALL of the timeline projections for the HW were way off. Even Ray Ban Stories Display or whatever the fuck it’s called now is off by years…
Now all FB has for the OS side is hacked Android without GMS and always behind.
Android XR has a shot at unification, but FB would have to swallow hard to get on board. BUT Google also went down the VR first path with the samsung device and killed its glasses lead — Iris could have been in the market in ‘23, easily. Now it’s 2026 — Google lost its opportunity to lead, and FB is in the leadership position on Glasses but their OS and app ecosystem are limited by Google.
What a mess, and something that didn’t have to happen. Long live the metaverse… Maybe Boz should be part of the layoffs at this point?

I was a VR advocate for such a long time that this is really personal to me. It's something I got wrong: I thought VR would be a lot more popular than it turned out to be.
Glasses are coming. There were huge crowds around all the glasses booths at CES, but the utility just hasn't shown up yet. Meta focused on games to the detriment of real utility, and I think that cost them.

What a sucky heartbreaking day for those working on VR at Meta. I'm seeing layoffs and studios shut downs all over. Twisted Pixel seems to be shut down, Deadpool VR, Sanzaru is shutdown, Asgard's Wrath, Supernatural team is gone, Armature, RE4 VR gone, layoffs all over for VR. Heartbreaking for everyone who has lost their jobs and not looking good for the future of VR gaming on Quest 3 right now.
