When did the word lie change its meaning to 'something I disagree with'? Here on X the two things appear to be interchangeable.

Rayner has been cleared, but the media ran 30 front pages in total, averaging 4 front pages a day during the peak of the story. Farage's £5 million gift has had two front page stories. Why would there be such a difference in reporting standards for the two?

@spanetx @afneil People have no patience. They expect instant results even when that's not realistic, by the time those results start to come it's too late in many people's minds.

@afneil Yes the UK is bizzare. Rishi Sunak had to leave exactly at the point economy was on the Up with inflation etc down, growth up. Same now with Starmer gdp up. Maybe the public requires holding back.

Not getting enough attention amid the Starmer soap opera: UK economy had strong start to the year: 0.6% growth in Q1. Month on month 0.3% in March alone. The UK economy is developing a habit of strong growth in Q1 then petering out. Look at last year. And 2024. Good chance this could happen again, especially with the baleful impact of Trump’s War on the global economy. Even so, 0.6% in Q1 is impressive.

@HardTruth2000 @RaynerUpdates @DamianLow3 Except those aren't the facts, most of that is speculation. There's no evidence she 'tried not to pay the tax due', in fact an expert review has concluded the opposite. Remarkable how people will try to twist 'facts' to suit their agenda.

@TechTonix @RaynerUpdates @DamianLow3 The fact is despite being the minister responsible for the law, and ignoring advice to get professional advice, she tried to not paying the tax due. Remarkable that you think people should underpay the tax due until HMRC investigates them.

@HardTruth2000 @RaynerUpdates @DamianLow3 Yes they confirmed the higher tax rate was due, but found there was no penalty due which there would have been had there been any wrongdoing. The rest of that is just your opinion, and whether I agree or not it doesn't change the outcome of the investigation.

@TechTonix @RaynerUpdates @DamianLow3 She paid the wrong amount. She ignored advice to get specialist advice. She hoped nobody would find out. We found out. HMRC confirmed she hadn’t paid what was due. She hasn’t published what HMRC have said to her. She’s been forced to pay the missing £40,000. She’s a hypocrite.

@HardTruth2000 @RaynerUpdates @DamianLow3 No again you're confusing what's due and wrongdoing, they aren't the same thing. No one is suggesting she doesn't have to pay it, but there was no wrongdoing in not paying at the time.

@HardTruth2000 @RaynerUpdates @DamianLow3 That's completely incorrect. Many people who pay tax on interest don't even do a tax return, there's no requirement to. You don't have to pay tax when you receive the interest, though it is due and you can choose to pay it.

@TechTonix @RaynerUpdates @DamianLow3 No you can’t. You do a tax return and pay it in the appropriate tax year. Rayners stamp duty tax was legally due within 14 days of the completion date of the purchase and is usually handled by a solicitor or conveyancer on the day. she had no intention of paying it ever.

@HardTruth2000 @RaynerUpdates @DamianLow3 They've investigated. If there was and wrongdoing there would be a fine for late payment or potentially worse. There isn't because they've found there's no wrongdoing, it's just a simple under calculation.

@TechTonix @RaynerUpdates @DamianLow3 HMRC has not started anything. Rayner has simply confirmed that she had to pay the tax that she hadn’t paid, exactly like all those people she used to criticise.

@HardTruth2000 @RaynerUpdates @DamianLow3 No. For example for those who pay tax on interest you don't generally pay it when it's due, you can choose to pay some of it or non of it. Then the difference is calculated later, and that's what's due. You haven't done anything wrong, even though you've under paid your tax.

@HardTruth2000 @RaynerUpdates @DamianLow3 So everyone who owes tax has 'done something wrong'? No, it's just the amount you owe it doesn't mean you've done something wrong. She has to pay it because it's owed, as they've clearly stated there's no wrongdoing it's simply a case of miscalculation.

@TechTonix @RaynerUpdates @DamianLow3 If she hadn’t done anything wrong, she wouldn’t have to pay HMRC £40,000 that she tried to evade including by failing toto obtain the expert advice she was explicitly told to obtain.

@HardTruth2000 @RaynerUpdates @DamianLow3 They also cleared her of any wrongdoing, hence why she's been cleared. The money still has to be paid, but there was no deliberate attempt to under pay (based on the findings of the investigation).

@suemcdonald342 @politixintheuk @JohnCleese So you believe someone who's concerned about the country should show it by turning a blind eye to bribery? I'm not suggesting this is true, we have no evidence as far as I'm aware, but if it is the last thing someone who cares about the country should do is ignore it.

🚨 THE HARBORNE'S £1M BUNG 🚨 While Westminster’s gossip addicts hyperventilate over whether Sir Keir sneezed too loudly at PMQs, Ben Habib casually drops a political napalm claim: that Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson were each allegedly handed £1 MILLION by crypto tycoon Christopher Harborne to “fix” an election. Read that again slowly. A Thailand-based billionaire pumping colossal sums into British politics… Farage swimming in offshore cash… Boris lurking in the background… and half the media still behaving like the real national emergency is Starmer existing in Downing Street. The £5m bung now looks like the tip of a very murky iceberg. If Fleet Street had any interest in following the money instead of chasing Westminster soap opera clicks, reporters would be camped outside Farage’s girlfriend’s house asking who knew what and when — not loitering outside No10 waiting for Labour MPs to invent another “leadership crisis”. Britain’s political press corps: obsessed with Starmer, allergic to asking serious questions about Reform’s billionaire backers. Absolute state of it. 🎪 Source: x.com/MittensOff/sta…

Zelensky Has Finally Stopped Pretending Trump Is Helping. Good. For fourteen months, Volodymyr Zelensky has been forced to sit quietly while the United States demanded he surrender territory, shrink his army, and be grateful for the privilege. He smiled. He negotiated. He flew to Mar-a-Lago. He stood next to Donald Trump and said encouraging things about peace frameworks while Trump’s team privately sketched out a deal that looked, to any honest observer, like Ukraine losing the war on paper instead of on the battlefield. That is now over. Since the bombs started falling on Tehran in late February, Washington has had no time for Ukraine. Peace talks are dead. US negotiators have simply moved on. And Zelensky, freed at last from the exhausting performance of American-dependent diplomacy, has started saying what he actually thinks. He has said that Trump’s team puts more pressure on Ukraine than on Russia. He has said that the American decision to suspend sanctions on Russian oil hands the Kremlin a sense of impunity. He has pointed out, with the calm fury of a man who has been extremely polite for an extremely long time, that the United States still chooses to pressure the victim rather than the aggressor. None of this is new. All of it is true. And twelve months ago, saying any of it out loud would have been unthinkable. Ukraine now produces most of its own drones. Over sixty percent of Russian drones are knocked down by domestically produced interceptors. Ukraine has signed deals to export its drone expertise, is building new security relationships across Europe and the Middle East, and is courting allies with the focused energy of a country that has quietly concluded it cannot count on Washington anymore. The peace talks are dead, says Harry Nedelcu of Rasmussen Global. There is no real negotiation. Russia has no incentive. Which is the entirely predictable outcome of a peace process run by a man who has spent the last year trying to acquire Greenland, bombing Iran, and repeatedly insisting that Ukraine, not Russia, started the war. Zelensky has stopped pretending that is helpful. It isn’t. It never was. If you like what you read, premium content on Substack: open.substack.com/pub/gandalv

@DannyBacon1974 @TheRealJamieKay You could take away migrants and all of those problems would still exist. Of course increasing population increases the problem, but it isn't the cause. Immigration also helps resolve other issues, so it has positive impacts as well as negatives which need to be balanced.

@TheRealJamieKay 10m arrivals over 14 years has had zero effects on the UK then has it? NHS record funding but over used, not enough houses so rents through the roofs, ageing water treatment that can’t cope with the waste, reservoirs can’t provide enough water. Explain how it’s not migrants

A lot of far-right politics boils down to this: convince struggling people that migrants caused every problem created by years of political failure, economic greed and underinvestment. It’s propaganda for angry people who need someone weaker to blame.

@TechTonix @TheRealJamieKay I get that more white people do things like that but as far as I know they pay the price, especially with kids. This however has been known about for decades and mostly kept hush hush, so obviously now it’s common knowledge it’s caused loads of bad feeling.

@oracle5556 @TheRealJamieKay No you can't blame them, but the issue is that isn't really the whole picture. It's the picture some people want you to see. The majority of immigrants don't rape, we should deal with those that do. Most rapes are committed by Btitish people, again we should deal with that.
