When you put a few too many amps through your cable

In response to the amazing 400 car battery video by @styropyro_ I decided to build a switch that I think solves his problem!

@joebarnard This is my first time using Twitter. I signed up to try and network for my YouTube channel. The default feed is definitely brain-rot crap. I'm trying really hard to find where the good content is on Twitter. Still looking.

@thekitze Does the 3D printer work for you; or do you work for the 3D printer?
English

i connected the 3d printer to home assistant and now i'm displaying a permanent widget in my bottom right corner of my monitor showing the current print status
it starts blinking green when done and i haven't taken out the print
and blinks red when nothing is printing
it's also pestering me with sarcastic voice messages every 5 min
gotta keep the prints running

@NoFrankingWay It's only a stepper motor because I'm too slow haha. When I switched to computer controlled commutation it's able to turn off the coils as the permanent magnet poles go past.
English

@DFWKamiL It's great fun building things to learn how they work. The 3D printer certainly makes it a lot easier!

@TechoHobby Your videos gave me nostalgic vibes coz these were all I did in my childhood, the difference is I never had a 3D printer..

I have been on Twitter/X for 6 months without a single follower. Today people started to show up! Firstly I am a real human, and an engineering and technology lover. I have a YouTube channel where I do fun DIY projects. Thanks for showing an interest; it's great to have you here!

@OzSciGeek I just DM'd you my whole concept/plan if you would like to give me your opinion on any of the specifics. But yes I'll be putting my safety first!
English

@TechoHobby I’m all for mucking around as a hobby.
Just be aware that arc-flash injuries from battery systems can be life threatening.
Not trying to preach here.
English

@OzSciGeek I'll be pleased if I get a very small scale version of this :P
English

@OzSciGeek Thank you! I'll just be short-circuiting some 12v AGM batteries through a big switch, with some smaller wire in the circuit to act as a fuse. Not messing with the murderous electrons in the power grid!
English

@TechoHobby Stay safe.
Above 125A, you need to use a type tested AS 61439 switchboard.
English

@thekitze Just because you can... does not mean that you should.
English

@ZeroElliottZero I'm new to Twitter/x. I didn't know comments were disabled. Should be fixed now!
English

@willreil I bought the same microscope just last week! Getting some great close ups for my next YouTube video :D

English

@loyalmoses I agree completely! I use 3D printing in most of my videos, but as a means to create something I think is interesting, part of a fun engineering process. It's never 'about' the 3D printer.

Straight 3D printing content on YouTube has been in free fall for the last couple of years.
YouTube is a game of adaptation, viewer psychology, and pushing limits.
Most 3D printing creators never evolved. And even when I pushed the limits, the gatekeepers, the ones who enjoy watching grown men in aprons, got angry. The real secret to growth is ignoring them completely. They don’t matter.
The total addressable market for pure 3D printing content is simply too small for meaningful growth. Smaller channels will have to adapt, or they’ll end up like many of the OG channels that are already in decline. For those OG channels, a pivot is almost impossible now, they have too many gatekeeping subscribers who won’t support it. It’s unfortunate, but it’s reality.
If you actually want to grow 3D printing on YouTube, you have to think bigger. Get out of the endless “3D printer review” grind and stop making videos about a “cool 3D print.”
Tell bigger stories.
Stories that appeal to larger audiences.
Stories that get people excited about the why behind the technology.
