Very funny response letter from Michael Roth, the president of Wesleyan. Harper’s piece in the Atlantic shows that university humanities departments have become ideological slop factories where big NGOs feed coins in and get whatever agitprop they want out. As a REBUTTAL Roth admits, ‘yeah, basically that’s true,’ and then pivots to calling Harper an attention-seeking jerk and comparing him to Jesse Helms. The response is very funny coming from a university president and it’s one of those situations where the rebuttal is ironically devastatingly effective in validating the original claims in Tyler’s piece.

As a young man, I cried at the end of A Farewell to Arms.
