as someone who played cod4-blops2 this was never an unspoken rule. most people just didnt know to play this way, competitive play wasnt as popular as now and the extent of movement back then was maybe a jump around the corner into a drop shot. over the years game knowledge evolved and the skill ceiling rose with the addition of new movement mechanics
