@hedgequote @TyRobben So much of it is ‘We built a solution for a problem you didn’t know you had, now we have to scale it x1000 to pay for it!’ Followed by ‘oh wait, you mean no one does anything the same way even though you all use the same core systems? Whut???’

I think the underlying goal with a lot of skeptics is making sure wave 1 insurtech concepts don't become wave 3. It's not going well. BUT Insurtech has a bad memory and an even worse habit of trying to build the same thing every 5-7 years. If nothing else I consider it protecting the limited capital available for innovation. Again, I'm not doing well but I'm showing up everyday.

@hedgequote And yet we have national orgs trying to make more standardization of processes and tech for all levels. 15 years ago a friend who had a smaller AMS company in Canada talked about going open source. Imagine that now!

@Teddier Think about this perfect storm 1. ZIRP allows programmers to leave large metros for smaller towns across US. 2. InsuRtech gets expensive or at least doesn't get cheaper. 3. Massive layoffs & FAANG type companies 4. AI prediction= Main St agents w/ enterprise level CTO/platform

Insurtech for independent insurance agents is basically a race to standardize a sector of the industry whose dominating value proposition is their customizations.

Generic Insurtech is coming to save users and punish vendors. 6-8 months from now almost every core technology at an insurance agency will be available as a "private/ generic brand" at 30% (or less) of existing cost. General rule - unless Applied owns it, you're overpaying.

A question for my followers… If you could only recommend one football book for people to read, what would it be?

@DavidJPba If you want to argue taxes are too high at least use the correct numbers. You are 2x higher than reality mate.

Imagine being the average Canadian, your Household Income is $72,200. You are taxed $31,000 to $33,000 on that. That leaves you with less than $50,000 to pay for everything. Your rent is $2,400 a month. Leaving you with less than $2,000 a month to live. Canadians are poor.

@Teddier @BrokerSteve412 *Snort* let’s be honest. We have “ideas of a plan” when it comes to MAGA regs. The consumer is damn lucky that MGAs have been voluntarily subjecting themselves to regulators for the last two decades.

Question for my insurance X people: How often do retail agents get appointed as an MGA? Is this common in certain verticals? What challenges/risks do you take on as the MGA? Contribute to reinsurance, filings, licenses, addl costs, etc?

@ThomasWatsonCD @BrokerSteve412 However there are many retail brokers in canada with the pen with DUAs for program specific products with full underwriting authority. Let’s just say ‘it’s complicated’

@BrokerSteve412 I can speak from the Canadian perspective. It doesn’t happen. You do see retail brokerages or groups of brokerages form a “captive” MGA but it’s always a legally and operationally separate company that does MGA work while the retail shop focuses on the distribution side.

After a long day of regulator meetings I deserve a treat while I wait for my, delayed, @porterairlines flight from Toronto-Pearson to Ottawa. My masterful plan of getting home an hour earlier by not using @BBishopAirport has failed spectacularly. That will teach me!
