Building a spaceship has to be one of the greatest human endeavors you can take on. The amount of detail you have to care about is next level. Last night and into this morning, we started installing the thin-film triple-junction solar cells. Each one is measured by hand before installation so we can verify its efficiency, which is around 33%. Then each cell is individually laid onto our panels. We predicted 2 minutes, it took 7.... DeepSpace-2, our upcoming mission, has six solar panels in total. Even the panel stack-up is hand-selected: black Kapton, carbon, aluminum honeycomb with tiny holes to release any trapped gas, carbon, and then a final layer of Kapton. That is just the substrate that we then build the panels on top of. Why do we go to these lengths? Mass. Mass is the single greatest expense when launching a spacecraft onto a high-energy orbit. Every decision here is made in the name of efficiency, and every bit of efficiency helps reduce overall spacecraft mass. Next up, one of the most delicate parts of the entire build. We need to solder the silver leads onto the copper bus bars. Update incomming.

Further from SLS NASA Chief Engineer, the rollback prior to launch was unnecessary due to a misinterpreted set of data from the vehicle. Previous NASA administration did not allow for solving the dealing problem that caused this, but it is being fixed now.

Just heard at Aerospace Mechanisms Symposium from SLS Chief Engineer the Artemis II launch was to within 99.997% accurate for their semi-major axis component of their orbit. Roughly 99.8% accurate overall. Pristine performance.

@TelemetryToday AUVSI XPO 2026 is currently taking place in Detroit. AUVSI Europe just concluded. The companies taking part in these events may be interested in being added to the Telemetry Aerospace Map. How might a company go about adding itself - or how do you pick those companies you do add?
