Choosing not to use them because you don’t like them, is choosing to be at a competitive disadvantage.
If someone is trying to be serious about going pro, they should probably put their preference for IPs to the side.

If this is what people think then they don't actually know me. I've been very vocal about what I don't like about UB. My critiques just go a little deeper than "IP BAD >:(". I've stated before that reprints are a big problem for UB sets as well as the number of legendary creatures making limited a little clunky at times. I couldn't care less about the actual IP of Star Trek but if it brings us well designed cards then I'll play them. This is because the thing that drew me to MTG was actually playing MTG, these are game pieces. If I wanted to roleplay as a wizard I'd go play DND. Above all I think we miss the fact of just how many new players have joined the magical gathering because of UB who would have never touched the game otherwise and for that I think we can all be a little grateful. Source: Used to work for one of the (at the time) largest card shops in the northeast

*Shown that nearly 80% of top 64 decks at the recent Paupergeddon ran at least one UB card, that 87.5% of the top 8 ran at least one UB card, takes victory lap.

We haven't even gotten into the Pupergenesis that followed, where over 80% of the top 64 ran UB cards, and not only did every single top 8 deck do so, but every single deck in the top 16 did so.
So no, you cannot meaningfully compete if you choose to ignore meaningfully compete. Even decks that avoided UB cards more like mono-red burn are starting to run Cast Into the Fire now.
Also, the percentages of UB cards in top 8s from these same top level Pauper tournaments in 2025 was around 50%.
Now it's 87-100%
The writing is clear on the wall, if you can read it.

@TelfenTCG Host a different set. Ask your LGS if you can run a non UB set. See if there is real interest. If your goal is to go pro and you're still whining about what image is printed on a card instead of ehat the card actually does thats a different issue with your mental as a player.
