The Consumer Protection Commission has been cracking down on bad business practices. Since 2025, 2,905 businesses were prosecuted for selling expired, counterfeit, or substandard goods, and 634 more have already faced action in 2026.
The announcement was made by Consumer Protection Commission Chairperson Respina Zinyanduko during World Consumer Rights Day commemorations at Urban Lifestyles Hotel, Masvingo on March 18, 2026.

Great Zimbabwe University @GreatZimUni Law students from the Environmental and Mining Law Unit recently visited Bikita, where they met Chief Marozva and community members for a two day community engagement legal and legal awareness programme aimed at educating residents about environmental protection and mining laws.
The programme was organised by the Environmental and Mining Law Unit in partmership with Zimbabwe Environmental Lawyers Organisation (ZELO).
The visit also included a guest lecture at Great Zimbabwe University, with contributions from experts from the Forestry Commission of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission and Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, who shared insights on environmental governance and community rights.

President Emmerson Dambudzo @edmnangagwa Mnangagwa today, March 16, presided over the 2026 Performance Contracts Signing and Awards Ceremony at the Harare International Conference Centre.
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira was named Best Minister of State, while Permanent Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Addmore Pazvakavambwa won the Best Secretary award.
Masvingo City Mayor Alec Tabe was named First Runner-Up Mayor/Council Chairperson in the Urban Local Authorities category.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Permanent Secretary Obert Jiri received the Top Performing Permanent Secretary award.

RBZ Launches ZiG Education Campaign in Masvingo
The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe @ReserveBankZIM yesterday(March 3, 2026) launched an education and awareness campaign in Masvingo Province to familiarise the public with the upgraded ZiG banknotes.
The upgraded “Big Five” denominations, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 ZiG are part of efforts to strengthen public understanding and confidence in the local currency.
RBZ officials encouraged members of the public to engage with teams deployed across the country to learn about the security features and changes to the new notes.
The campaign is being rolled out nationwide, with Ministers of State, RBZ senior management and technical teams leading similar awareness programmes in other provinces.

Chaos in the Chambers -Ward 2 Councillor Danford Chikanyau, an opposition councillor at Chiredzi Town Council who also serves as the Housing Chairperson, was forcibly removed from a full council meeting during a heated debate. The drama unfolded as Chikanyau voiced strong opposition to the proposed promotion of two senior employees.
The first candidate, who holds a degree in Agriculture and was slated for promotion to Deputy Director of Operations, deputising the Director of Works (an engineer). The second one was recommended for a move from Project Coordinator to Senior Project Coordinator. However, Chikanyau objected to the elevations arguing that the two do not possess the requisite qualifications for the senior roles.

ZACC officials in court over extortion allegations
Two officials from the @ZACConline_ Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission (ZACC) Brian Munyaradzi Kombora (32) and Terrence Manatse (34), recently appeared before the Plumtree Magistrates’ Court facing charges of criminal abuse of duty as public officers and unlawful detention.
The court heard that on February 17, 2026 at around 2000 hours Kombora allegedly entered ZIMRA offices at Mphoengs Border Post while off duty, identified himself as a ZACC officer, handcuffed a 39-year-old supervisor and told her she was arrested for an undisclosed offense. Kombora allegedly demanded money in exchange for her release.
He allegedly locked her in an office with two colleagues and threatened their employment before security officers intervened and arrested him. Manatse was arrested after reportedly attempting to negotiate his colleague’s release.
The two were each granted USD100 bail.

ZANU PF Zaka ward 24 councillor Zivanai Zvida has been acquitted of incitement to commit public violence charges over a WhatsApp message allegedly calling for protests against President @edmnangagwa Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The court ruled the State failed to provide reliable evidence linking him to the message. Zvida had spent 16 days in detention before being granted bail.
Prosecutors alleged that on March 31, 2025, Zvida posted a message in a WhatsApp group titled ward 24 Development Agents stating, 'M31 Movement Munhu wese mu road Emmerson Mnangagwa has to go.'
He was arrested on April 1, 2025.
