@BeaviSNoches @MrCasey62 Eh, opposite problem now. The Church who's leader brought down the USSR is now sitting back and blessing ice cubes. It's become too meek. There's no authoritarian complex left in the Church.

@TemplarJosh88 @MrCasey62 Hopefully not at the sword point of a church with an authoritarian complex believing it deserved a seat at the side of government with the right to compel "belief."

The timing of this post is hilarious. Catholics worldwide are celebrating the conversions of over a 100,000 Protestants to Catholicism simply because they were shown from the Bible that Catholicism is biblical. 🧵

@RiverIsMee @MrCasey62 I'm demonstrating that we both agree that God makes exceptions for the ordinary means of salvation in extraordinary circumstances. We just disagree on the specifics of the ordinary means.

@TemplarJosh88 @MrCasey62 You have said yourself, those who have never heard the gospel are not condemned to hell by ignorance, those who haven't had a physical baptism either. God is not arbitrary with His word or law. They are not applicable for some and not others.

@RiverIsMee @MrCasey62 What you're saying is that there's clear evidence God can go past what you believe to be the ordinary means of salvation, and call to Heaven those who have never proclaimed Christ or asked forgiveness of their sins, or professed faith in Christ?

@TemplarJosh88 @MrCasey62 No, God shows Himself to everyone Romans 1:18-20 Gods laws and word are imprinted on us so that even if we were never told, we know through our conscience. Romans 2:14-16 This is also showing ceremony will not save you.

@BeaviSNoches @MrCasey62 Which is precisely why an authority on the matter- an authority clearly established by Christ - is so crucial. How else would things like contraception, IVF, and other modern issues not addressed in the Bible be resolved?

@TemplarJosh88 @MrCasey62 My understanding is this is a distinction between SBC (Southern Baptists) and most other traditional Baptist denominations, but finding clear lines here is obviously impossible. Even moreso with non-denom obviously since that's in the name :)

@TemplarJosh88 @MrCasey62 Yes spiritual baptism in Christ will save you. A physical baptism is not necessary. You are reborn when you accept Christ, not when you touch pool water with a pastor

@RiverIsMee @MrCasey62 When the ordinary means are impossible, yes. Surely you don't think that people who have never heard the gospel are condemned to Hell?

@TemplarJosh88 @MrCasey62 So the sacrament, ceremonies, and confirmation are not necessary, its up to God's grace and you wanting to be baptized enough? I.E. a spiritual change not a physical baptism?

@RiverIsMee @MrCasey62 I feel like you're ignoring many express commandments in favor of taking one passage out of context. Jesus directly tells us to be born of water. Tells the Apostles to baptize all. Peter says baptism saves you. The NT speaks to it's necessity time and again.

@TemplarJosh88 @MrCasey62 Water ceremonial baptism is symbolic of a spiritual change, not necessary for salvation. You are baptized in Christs death and your old self dies with him. You are reborn at your profession and acceptance of that death. Not in the literal water.

@RiverIsMee @MrCasey62 Baptism is among the ordinary means of salvation. God is more than capable of making exceptions. Your scenario would fall under baptism of desire

@TemplarJosh88 @MrCasey62 Were the works not necessary for salvation, is God condemning them for dying before, or is God arbitrarily letting some people wear the blood before their works are completed?

@RiverIsMee @MrCasey62 It might have been broadly about how old covenant laws applied to Gentiles, but it certainly wasn't contradicting what Jesus, Paul, Peter, and others said about the necessity of baptism.

@RiverIsMee @MrCasey62 The New testament expressly commands us to get baptized. Multiple times. And the baptism saves. That's simply not a risk I'm willing to take, considering many will say "Lord Lord"

@TemplarJosh88 @MrCasey62 If you want todo all these extra things to glorify God and bring yourself closer to Him by all means But your wording of "just in case" means on some level you think your actions here will change the outcome vs a protestant doesn t take catholic communion or wasn't water baptized

@RiverIsMee @MrCasey62 Keep reading, friend! And understand the context. The question was regarding circumcision among gentiles. Not the rules Christ laid out for us in plain English! Er, Aramaic/Greek. You not what I mean. Lol

@TemplarJosh88 @MrCasey62 Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV [8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] not of works, lest any man should boast. Subscribing to the fact that the Bible does not lie to us or contradict itself, we are saved by faith in Jesus.

@TemplarJosh88 @MrCasey62 Elijah who didn't die in the events of the Bible? Death which through the price for sin is paid? God would not give us the information that we are saved only through Faith to then say after death we didn't take enough communion and Jesus won't stand for us.

@RiverIsMee @MrCasey62 And Elijah didn't believe in Jesus and went straight to heaven. God can make exceptions. However, Christ's command to baptize had not yet been given. That happens just before His Ascension. The thief died under the Old Covenant transition, before the Church was established

@TemplarJosh88 @MrCasey62 The thief crucified with Jesus wasn't baptized, never took communion, but he was saved. Worrying about any of these rituals places your salvation in your ability to do them.

@TemplarJosh88 @LuisRui83044321 @renewingprotest @MrCasey62 No, he didn't. You're hanging on metaphorical language as physical fact. The power to bind , loose and heal was granted to anyone in Christ's name alone. Not some fictional institution usurping Christ's intercession

@RiverIsMee @MrCasey62 I hope all who profess Jesus will enter the Kingdom. But Christ tells us that many will say 'Lord Lord' and that He won't know them. Ignoring several very key ingredients to living the Christian life, specifically baptism and Eucharist are things I'm simply not willing to risk.
