Incredible disclosure today An internal email from @StaffordshireCC saying that Head of #sen has directed the Team must defend all dyslexia appeals Email continues that "unfortunately" the LA has to prepare a "strong case" so much to unpick #ehcp

I’m overwhelmed by all the love and support on here for my professional news. Thanks to you all, I look forward to continuing to advocate for all my clients (with the advantage of being one row further forward in court)

We are incredibly proud that our BLEMI founder @SteveBroach is on the list of successful KC applicants today! Steve is proof that lived experience of mental illness need not preclude excellence at the bar. Congratulations! 🥳📷 🥳

In mediation (DARS) with the school principal she described this as messy play. She said Harry has sensory needs & he needed to experience ‘messy play’. This is forced compliance, it wasn’t a choice, he was also mechanically restrained to force participation #HarrysLaw

Why does we consistently ignore the difference between making a child do something, and them choosing to do that same thing? We talk of ‘deliberate practice’ when we mean ‘deliberately making them practice’. 1/

I've got a teeny weeny bit of news... Since Beth was first locked away I've logged some figures. To visit her in various settings I have driven...73,850 miles. That took 1,877 hours. If you broke that into 8 hr days thats 234 days or 33.5 weeks.

@stephstwogirls When we had an EOTAS package 2 of our professionals were 30 miles from our home in opposite directions in different counties. For the first year we were offered £100 for fuel! If only our kids could go to their nearest school and we could drop off and go to work 😳

Wow. A golden ticket.. haven’t heard that before. Wonder if this guy knows that I am being made to take my child to school in a different county (wasn’t my choice), that wasn’t my choice, and that I have to drive her there because she is unable to travel by taxi. 🙄
Robert Colvile@rcolvile

On home-school transport, if you have an Education, Health and Care Plan for a kid with SEND needs, it's a golden ticket. You can, among other things, get them taxis to/from school. There are obviously many kids who do need this! But the number of such plans has risen hugely.

'Keegan said the SEND tribunal factor was “basically…lots of parents taking councils to tribunal to get to a particular school, normally an independent school, normally very expensive independent schools”. Ms Keegan, get in the sea! schoolsweek.co.uk/send-system-is…

Once again: The SEND Tribunal applies the law. The law says children & young people have the right to special educational provision that meets their needs. If their needs can't be met at the nearest school, the Tribunal will rule that they should attend a school that can.
Schools Week@SchoolsWeek

SEND system is 'lose, lose, lose', costing a 'fortune' and not providing the 'right service', admits Keegan She also told @SCHOOLSNE conference parents were using the system of tribunals to get their children into 'very expensive independent schools' schoolsweek.co.uk/send-system-is…

One problem: it's hard to credibly use a document to combat misinformation when that document comes pre-loaded with the LA's own disinformation. Here's page 23 of THRIVE, which misleadingly describes the threshold & requirements for EHC needs assessment

@CaptainK77 Why lump in EOTAS with that? Oh it will be because they are trying to save the miniscule amount of money that goes to support children who can even access the £100000 a yr schools 🤦

What is the relationship of my #ActuallyAutistic comrades with alcohol? Many of us struggle with addiction due to it being a “social lubricant”. Some of us feel we can only unmask without it. Some shy away just because of what it does to our nervous system. Some enjoy it.

@teamsquarepeg Well until they change the law around parental responsibility for children attending suitable education the NHS can say what they want. Won’t change things other than drive more kids to be EHE

“NHS reveals when to send sick kids to school as minister slams 'cautious' parents” Here we go. We’re either irresponsible or over cautious. 🙄 There is nothing wrong with taking a day to rest when feeling unwell. Self-managed healthcare is a good thing. apple.news/AkVH4ND6gRg2S0…
