Yesterday, peacekeepers in vehicles patrolling the Blue Line were fired upon by IDF soldiers in a Merkava tank near Sarda.   One ten-round burst of machine-gun fire was fired above the convoy, and four further ten-round bursts were fired nearby.

Last night’s strikes by Israel in south Lebanon are violations of Security Council resolution 1701 and put the fragile stability that has been built since November of last year at risk.

UNIFIL peacekeepers patrol south Lebanon every day – independently and with the @LebarmyOfficial. These patrols are essential to monitoring all violations of resolution 1701, strengthening security along the Blue Line, and restoring stability in the region.

Today I visited the @LebarmyOfficial training hub in Aramein, north Lebanon. @UNIFIL_ is working to support the Lebanese Army in their full deployment to the south of Lebanon, strengthening cooperation, and providing stability and security in Line with resolution 1701.

Road repair, demining and clearing roadblocks are key elements of UNIFIL’s support to local communities, helping restore safe access and freedom of movement. In Shama, Chinese peacekeepers cleared rubble & reopened roads, supporting safe mobility and stability in south Lebanon.

With over 10,000 peacekeepers deployed, @UNIFIL_ supports Lebanon and Israel in their implementation of United Nations resolution 1701 (2006); peacekeepers monitor and report violations of the resolution to the Security Council and support security and stability in the region.

During a recent operation in south Lebanon, UNIFIL peacekeepers, in close coordination with @LebarmyOfficial, discovered a tunnel of approximately 50 meters and several unexploded ordnances near Al Qusayr. In line with resolution 1701, the findings were handed over to the LAF.

With UNIFIL’s support, the LAF has now deployed to 120+ positions in the south. Strengthening their capabilities through joint activities and training is vital — not just for us, but for the international community — in maintaining stability.

Peacekeepers joined the Women & Children Festival in Tyre, with the Union of Municipalities and the Lebanese Army. Local women shared handmade goods, and peacekeepers brought shows for kids — a moment to connect, support local trade, and stand with those facing real challenges.
