@jminceyturf Burnout, burnout often leads to depression and impacts the drive/passion of the individual. I know when I’m burnout I contemplate leaving the industry all together.

Honest question for the turf community: What are some things in the turf industry that aren’t talked about enough? Burnout, pay, work-life balance, leadership, career paths outside the course — what else? Let’s hear it.

This morning I played the golf course that started my career in the Green Industry 20 years ago. 1st time I ever ran a string trimmer, raked a trap, etc was here. What a treat! Conditions were lush and flashback memories throughout. Birch Creek Golf Club in Union, MO

Hate this time of year...hearing of great people and highly qualified supers losing their jobs around the country. To club board members and leadership teams, your super spends countless hours on the course, sacrifices time with family, and spends sleepless nights thinking about the property. Nobody cares more about the course than they do. Have a conversation. Learn why things are the way they are. Realize that not all properties are the same. Environments and resources make a difference. A course that does 35,000 rounds with heavy cart traffic isn't going to be the same as the one your buddy is a member at that plays 15,000 rounds with caddies. Supers...control the narrative. Communicate with your members. Stand on the tee or spend time in the grill room answering questions. They may be difficult conversations during the challenging times, but facing problems head on, discussing the issues and laying out the path forward goes a long way. Getting the facts from you is better than the hearsay and rumors that will circulate around the bar.

A lot of GC Supers have lost their jobs this year that didn’t deserve to. Brutal winter, weird spring and summer. You can be good at growing grass and have years you struggle due to weather. If you have a Super who has done well for 3 years, he doesn’t become bad overnight.

@TenholderTurf95 @chuck_stccc Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and the Badlands are in western North Dakota. Beautiful out there, now eastern North Dakota is Kansas but flatter.

Before converting our tees to bentgrass last summer, I’d only used the TDR on greens. Since we started using it on tees, it’s given us a better understanding of what each tee needs in terms of moisture so we can catch hot spots before we even see them💧

Every hole is purely bold at Oakwood CC’s par 3 course. Routing uses classics, templates and originals designs, up/down elevation, wild bunkering. Greens at the right speed for such scale of contouring. Robots handle all rough mowing!

@spartangrass Being forced to hit out of a divot on the place you should be rewarded is just flat out stupid. The flagstick is not really a concern since most people don’t hit it 🤷🏻‍♂️

I bet the guys who want free drops from divots think if your ball hit the flag stick, the next shot should be a gimme.
