In terms of GDP growth or growth in exports, please provide the figures to show the UK has ‘notably underperformed’ France, Germany or Italy — which along with UK make up Europe’s four biggest advanced economies — since 2016. Thank you.
Ben Judah@b_judah

According to @GoldmanSachs — “The Structural and Cyclical Costs of Brexit” by James Moberly and Sven Jari Stehn: 1️⃣ Britain has “notably underperformed other advanced economies since the EU referendum in June 2016” thanks to lower growth and higher inflation. 2️⃣ “Real UK GDP has fallen short of similar countries by about 5%” since the 2016 voter. 3️⃣ “UK goods trade has underperformed other advanced economies by around 15% since the Leave vote” 4️⃣ “Business investment has been weak since 2016, falling notably short of the pre-referendum trend” “The evidence points to a significant long-run output cost of Brexit.”

@wanderer_bolton @CharlieSaxaC @Badger26348 @john4brexit "Charlie" is one of a group of anti-Brexit troll accounts set up in January 2026. 26 followers. I wouldn't waste my time on them. That's why they're blocked. So leave them to their irrelevance. They add nothing to the conversation but whiny ignorant trolling.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. The CU would destroy our good trade deals and erect costly tariff barriers to protect EU producers from competition. What has that got to do with U.K. growth?
Danny Chambers MP 🔸🩺@DannyVet

Brexit has cost us billions in lost trade and left us with a stagnant economy. The Conservatives caused this damage. Labour won't fix it. It doesn't matter who the new Labour leader is - if they won't even join a customs union, they'll fail to grow the economy.

The first rule of Labour’s EU Club appears to be that ‘you do not talk about rejoining the EU’. Indeed, Andy Burnham’s and Wes Streeting’s not-very-principled position on Brexit seems to be that they want the UK to rejoin the EU but do not want to be too open about this until after either of them is elected. This might seem odd. After all, those seeking closer economic ties with the EU often claim that this is what the British public want. At face value, opinion polls do suggest that a majority would back the idea of the UK becoming a full member again. However, this evidence needs to be heavily caveated. ✍️@julianHjessop capx.co/does-britain-r…

@b_judah I am indeed already aware of the detail thank you - your patronising response demeans you. The detail I am aware of, is that it is EU law that all new EU member states *MUST* agree to adopt the Euro. The timescale and process is utterly irrelevant. You know this. So why lie.

@TerraOrBust You know the details and facts here about Euro membership but clearly think this is the better political argument for you. That’s fine but I’m not going to read you the treaties or explain it in more detail!

It’s really helpful accounts like this keep focusing on the Euro as a key obstacle, leading the right wing press coverage, because when the Commission says the UK doesn’t actually have to follow through and join if it doesn’t want to it will look like a massive concession.
Gully Foyle #UKTrade@TerraOrBust

Am sure that this statement, that obligations in a treaty are just a "notional commitment", will be news to the EU. Are all treaty commitments and EU laws just "notional commitments", or just the ones that are inconvenient to those who wish to rejoin?

@PolitcoGeordie @SeagerMJ @BenedictSpence Hi there, The power to control British borders, entry from inside and outside the EU, now sits with British politicians. Those politicians enacted bad policies. Those politicians were then removed. That you can remove the politicians whose fault it was, *is* the benefit.

‘The leave side won, and we should respect it.’ Former Head of Labour Leave during the 2016 EU Referendum, Brendan Chilton, says he is disappointed to hear the debate on rejoining the EU has been brought up again.

The UK is the EU's second biggest customer. If I go in to a shop and I do not enjoy the experience, then I do not use that shop again. If the EU is making life difficult for their second biggest customer, then we should stop buying their goods until they provide a better service.

Myth busting: • Euro membership is purely a notional commitment for new members: Poland has not joined the Euro and never will. The UK could keep the Pound like the Zloty as long as it wanted — and that could be forever.

"I haven't read it but it is full of lies" The FBPE crew wonder why we don't take them remotely seriously.
Richard Bentall #FBPE @richardbentall.bsky.social@RichardBentall

@BritainUnbound @DavidGHFrost @TerraOrBust I didn't say I'd read it. I said it's full of lies, as is his Twitter thread. The dishonest fool, who won't even reveal his real name, blocked me when I started point out his lies. That's literally why I was blocked. Here's a review. thenewworld.co.uk/jonty-bloom-th…

I am thoroughly enjoying this conversation from afar. "I debunked his book" "Did you?" "It's a tissue of lies" "Really?" "Well I haven't read it" Evidence if some were needed, of why Richard was blocked.
Britain Unbound@BritainUnbound

@RichardBentall @DavidGHFrost @TerraOrBust So just to be clear - you are admitting now that you have repeatedly lied about the contents of his book, because you haven't actually read it? With all due respect Richard, we are starting to see why @TerraOrBust might have blocked you.

A reminder for those not keeping up. Even if the EU bureaucrats do finally agree to accept the terms that the commission has already agreed to, the terms they secured are *still* worse than the UK secured. The US is the UK's single largest trade partner.
POLITICOEurope@POLITICOEurope

EU negotiators are meeting tonight in a bid to seal a deal on the transatlantic trade pact struck last summer. The biggest outstanding hurdle is how far the bloc should go toward “Trump-proofing” the deal. 🔗 politico.eu/article/eu-tip…

@Chris_Leigh_UK @BenedictSpence @TerraOrBust Guess you lot don’t even understand the economic damage it’s created. And the new trade deals created from this “freedom” don’t even touch the sides. But old boys who won’t need to worry about what happens in the next 10 years won’t change their minds. Tragic 💀🤦‍♂️
