@joespano_ You just expressed what all of us have been feeling for a long time, thank you.

It feels like we are still paying for the sins of poor grant decisions on #NEAR. Some terrible grants were given out and a lot of money was wasted but now we are at a no-man’s-land stage. As someone building an actual product that meets all the core tenants of NEAR’s mission (open web, bridge between web2 and 3, leveraging the BOS, etc) I don’t feel fully supported. If we were in another ecosystem, maybe we could have raised money through an NFT. But now there is a mess of governance and fighting the tide of various DAOs with their agenda. Currently, there is no clear path for legitimate projects building from the ground up within the ecosystem except for the traditional route of raising outside money. And I mean this not just for ShardDog but I can think of a handful of products building on NEAR that would fall into this bucket. A chain for builders but the focus and attention seem to be on outside projects and a governance experiment. At ShardDog/Ready Layer One, we both have a long-proven professional track record and a successful track record within the ecosystem. Where we have operated at a loss on all fronts. That’s our choice but to reverse course, I am unclear on the path. We are the type of builders that the ecosystem and web3 need more of. Focused on product, usability, and the ethos of the open web. We could easily do something similar on web2 but that goes against the mission of what we are trying to do. Even with this focus on governance, I don’t particularly want to participate. I am here to build cool things and build an actual product and business. My impact will be stronger through product and code vs governing. Also, I believe it is too early for decentralized governance, and frankly, for myself it’s not my focus. Yet within the ecosystem, this feels like a core emphasis and the main way to attract funding for people and projects. Well, there are bounties too 🙄 but at my career stage and with limited time they are not a feasible financial strategy. Also after these initial elections, who says there is a path for strong projects to apply for grants? There has been a glut of low ROI, and poor long-tail applications and that is likely to get worse post-elections as groups jockey to install “their people”. Overall, I'd love to see a return to focus on both bringing in new projects to the ecosystem and most importantly emphasizing “homegrown” products that highlight the mission statement of NEAR.
