Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in firstborns can have lasting effects across siblings, according to a new population-based birth cohort study of over half a million children in England. Researchers found that when firstborns were exposed to ACEs within the first 1,000 days of life, their siblings faced higher risks of mental health problems, health-care use, and hospital admissions, highlighting how trauma can ripple through families, not just individuals.
