I loved seeing the Mortal Kombat II movie teasers and can’t wait to see Karl Urban as Johnny!
Funny timing because I rewatched the 1st @mortalkombat movie last weekend after several years! I still love it ❤️
The atmosphere and fight choreography hold up, notably the Scorpion and Johnny Cage fight. It was filmed in Thailand and the landscapes are breathtaking, and the elaborate set design are still impressive. The music is great and was my gateway to goth/industrial. The opening sequence goes hard! The movie has its issues, with cheesy dialogue and special effects, but it’s pure fun.
Very nerdy story time 😊 I love MK, and spent much of my youth playing MK, MKII, and UMK3. I was elated when the 1st film was announced, but had to wait to see it. My mom lived in Japan then and my flight back from visiting my Dad was Aug. 18, 1995–the day it premiered! After a summer of previews, it was devastating to miss opening day. The base movie theater took 6 months to get new movies. By then I’d already read the movie novelization and the Rovin book.
The day finally came and I begged my poor mom to take me over an hour early. We were the 1st people in line 🤭
I loved it and still remember people cheering and laughing in the theater. My best friend later taped it for me (which I still have, in addition to this VHS copy) and I watched it after school all the time!
Even now, I have a blast watching it. I also enjoyed the 2021 @MKMovie (my favorite part was the sweep bit) and can’t wait for the newest take in MKII! ❤️🐉

@christinarose_e I loved the TMNT cartoon. I had the toys, but not the bowl.

Happy Saturday, everyone! It was a busy week, but we got there! This morning I’m smiling and remembering happy Saturday mornings growing up, eating cereal out of this Michelangelo bowl and watching my favorite cartoons (including my hour of Ninja Turtles from 8-9 a.m. on Fox).
My grandparents got me Cookie Crisp with this awesome @TMNT bowl when I was a kid.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cereal was on the shelves from 1989 through about 1995 and I certainly had my share of it! It tasted a bit chalky, and the box described it as "crunchy, sweetened 'ninja nets' with 'ninja turtle' marshmallows.” The “ninja nets” looked like Chex cereal and (chalky tasting) pizza-shaped marshmallows were added later. Cookie Crisp and TMNT cereal were each owned by Ralston Purina, and these bowls came with both! I really loved those lazy 90s Saturday mornings!

I loved playing Contra growing up! Though much of my collection is from childhood, my copy of Contra sadly disappeared from my Dad’s when I was very young. Last week I found this immaculate boxed copy and had to get it! It was so fun to replay and beat, and I’m thrilled to replace a meaningful piece of my youth 😊
Contra follows commando protagonists Bill “Mad Dog” Rizer (based on Schwarzenegger in Predator) and Lance “Scorpion” Bean (based on Stallone) on their mission to destroy Red Falcon.
The gameplay switches perspectives across 8 stages, with some side-scrolling, others pseudo-3D, and some vertical-scrolling.
Released by Konami, this game is pure fun. It’s especially delightful to play 2 player! Contra is tough and we frequently used the Konami/Contra code (U, U, D, D, L, R, L, R, B, A) as kids for 30 lives. Like the Genesis MK Blood Code in MK, the Contra Code was somehow known by all! It still feels cool to key in to this very day! I love this game ❤️

@christinarose_e I love "Willow"! Fun story, great performances and visual effects.

I had a lovely evening last night watching Willow on VHS! This is one of the first movies I actually remember watching and definitely one of my earliest fantasy movies. It certainly shaped my interests going forward. I absolutely love it and was all smiles, cozy and curled up in my retro room ❤️

Genuinely one of the worst threads I’ve ever seen showcasing no media literacy of what is supposedly “a braindead movie for children”
Let me break down every point and how flawed at best they are.

Through struggle and discipline, persistence and faith, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. helped move this country forward. As we honor his legacy today, let’s remember the lesson he taught us: that even in the face of impossible odds, people who love this country can help change it. In honor of #MLKDay, I hope you’ll do what you can in your community to create a better future for us all.

I wrote sketches for Saturday Night Live when I was in high school, and SNL called my house. I didn’t have a cell phone and was at some beach party, so my dad answered the phone and thought it was a prank call. It took the woman a few minutes to convince my dad it was real. He didn’t even know I wrote scripts and mailed them in, because I didn’t tell anyone. 😂

Being a software engineer and also being an attractive girl is not some sort of impossible feat. I only go viral and gain the influence that I do because of how impossible the misogynists in my comments make it out to be.
They want me to stop going viral, they want me to stop being treated as “special,” but they do not understand that losing their narrative of “women, especially not attractive ones, are NOT software engineers or harvard grads” is the one thing that’s necessary to make that happen.
All that’s to say, they are self-defeating idiots. Their own words are powerful tools of propaganda against their own ideologies, and I will continue exploiting that to illustrate how illogical misogyny can be.
