Regional Chief @terry_teegee provided the opening Keynote at #COFI2024, with @shannon_janzen moderating a Q&A session. Chief Teegee talked about the importance of shared decision making, emphasizing that the path forward for the forestry industry will be in partnerships that are rooted in free, prior and informed consent through processes that adhere to UNDRIPA. In the Q&A, Chief Teegee and Janzen discussed how the Forestry Industry can move forward in collaboration with Indigenous Communities to create more opportunities for shared prosperity. As a former forester himself, he sees that more First Nations are thinking outside the box to find opportunities in the Forest sector, utilizing fibre for energy and creating value added products. New construction policies are building taller with wood, and opportunities are being created by initiatives driven by First Nations communities that want to be a part of the economy. #COFI2024 #Reconciliation #SustainableForestry #ForestryForTheFuture
