@womensmarch Thank you for this! To all the haters commenting: your forced-birth policies always—always—increase rates of preventable death from complications of pregnancy and childbirth. You’re not fooling the women, trans, and non-binary people you put at risk, or those who love them 🤷🏻‍♀️

I could watch @NC5PhilWilliams count seats all day long. It’s wild how easy they make it to show how little integrity they have.
The Tennessee Holler@TheTNHoller

🔥 MUST-WATCH: “We counted seats… no one was concerned about building codes when it was their people.” @NC5PhilWilliams hilariously exposed #KremlinCameron @CSexton25 & the fragile @tnhousegop’s lie about capacity used to keep the people out. Full: x.com/nc5philwilliam…

On July 29, 1910 hundreds of white people massacred Black residents of Slocum, Texas. It is believed that the massacre began after a Black worker was appointed to a position of authority on a road project. Slocum, similar to Tulsa was a thriving Black community. In two days, it is estimated that 200+ Black people were massacred. Only six were officially confirmed and 22 were reported by major newspapers because Black lives didn't matter. Black people had to leave their land, homes, farms, and businesses behind. Wealth is lost to generations. The African-American population in Slocum declined.

Again, just like the Tulsa Massacre, the Slocum Massacre was not even acknowledged in Texas until 100 years later, in 2011. (EJI) #FreshVoicesRise #BlackHistoryWithLana

In 1910, 14% of farmers were Black, owning more than 16 million acres of land — today only 1 in 100 farmers are Black! The documentary “Gaining Ground” is uncovering the long-term effects this had on Black families and their pursuit of generational wealth. fal.cn/3AiyT

For the historical record: during the brutal summer of 2023, a coal baron Senator bragged about permitting a 300-mile fracked gas pipeline with the emissions equivalent of 37 coal fired plants and 27 million cars.
Senator Joe Manchin@Sen_JoeManchin

WATCH: Construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline will now resume, creating 4,500 jobs by the end of August. This is a great day for American energy security and even a greater day for the state of West Virginia.

Republicans don’t like my style 🩳👟🙄 I don’t like them playing games with the economy. It’s tough going up against these out-of-touch politicians. Can you chip in to help us reach our $30,000 fundraising goal by July 31 so I can continue my fight in the Senate? 😅

A real estate magnate got a $4M tax write-off for the guesthouse holding his art collection, saying the public would have access. When a ProPublica reporter recently visited, it was the first time a member of the public had toured the gallery in years. propublica.org/article/how-pr…

Adam Frisch - Win The Center/Win Back Rural USA
Here’s an infuriating idea: If Lauren Boebert wins again in 2024, she becomes eligible for a lifetime congressional pension – paid for by you, the taxpayer. If that doesn’t make you want to give $10 right now to Adam Frisch’s campaign to defeat Boebert, we don’t know what will.

Enslavers and their historians argued for decades that enslaved Black people benefited from American slavery, were civilized by American enslavers, were better off than peasants in Europe and Africa. All to defend slavery from abolitionists. Here are two examples. A thread 1/
Ibram X. Kendi@ibramxk

Enslavers defended slavery by claiming it was a “positive good” for Black people. Today Florida’s Board of Education approved new Black history standards that note enslaved Black people developed skills that “could be applied for their personal benefit.” washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/07…

Take that in. Then try wrapping your head around the fact that we’re only seeing the beginning of a destabilising planet, while remembering that GHG emissions are still rising and the companies largely causing this are making record profits. A bit concerning, don’t you think?
Prof. Eliot Jacobson@EliotJacobson

Our favorite planet has now seen 20 days in a row breaking the modern-day record high-temperature of 16.924°C (62.46°F) set on July 24, 2022. This global heatwave is likely the hottest 20-day stretch in the last 100,000+ years.
