I Love Music.... When I Can Play Shit....

Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach. The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

@smithdwesson I dislike think pieces like this - yes, branding can "hurt" and/or "box" what the art can be - but it also allows for freeform and focus on what the art is. We can't call it fallacy, when without that "brand" it wouldn't have propelled the movement the way it did.

You really just gotta do your research on unofficial SXSW before you play for a slot. Not all are scams but I’d say like 80% will just have you in a room rapping to other rappers waiting on their turn to go on stage.

@DJILLSKILLS I've literally spent more money getting singles because they're not available on the 4 record pools I'm a part of - I'm about to use a service that just compiles from everywhere and cherry pick my way after doing my usual digging.....

It's SAD AF that record pools just aren't as great as they used to be....

The more that I try to come back to "social media".... I end up doom scrolling and the amount of negativity that encompasses this space..... its just increasingly disturbing.... and as a DJ it sucks - bc I HAVE to participate in this space to some degree.....

We ALL need to continue working to improve our listening/reading to understand perspective AND the words being said/read instead formulating counter points in the midst of things.....

Hot take: I’m not mad at that clip of the girl blending Shai over a trap beat… ppl are mad she threw a classic R&B acapella over 808’s… the OG Back To Life by Soul II Soul was acapella too, til they put it on a breakbeat… that’s hip hop baby. Plus the TR808 is super hip hop

@DJkmeta It just opens up more opportunities for us as DJs to GET OUT of the monotony that has encapsulated entertainment for so long..... AND I'll add this tidbit these types of events... the energy is different in a good way; speaking from experience....

I’m so torn on this topic. The DJ purist in me is annoyed by these boiler room style events/viral clips, but if people are enjoying them in real life hating on the internet feels lame
