Today, our courts sided with the model of profiting off pollution by permitting failing Thames Water a £3 billion bailout. And we are furious. 😡 We believe this judgement is a massive missed opportunity for making an example out of our failing water industry and taking a step towards the transformational reform the broken water sector urgently requires. The Government still has the opportunity to place the debt-ridden company into special administration, however, they seem intent on sitting on their hands. But this fight isn't over. Our friends @We_OwnIt and @WindrushWasp have done incredible work in forcing the court to consider this case. Now, we need to have the Independent Water Commission in our sights, and we will be doing everything we can to ensure they deliver government recommendations to overhaul this broken system. 🚨 The Water Commission lineup is out. 🚨 It looks like our voices have been heard. 🙌 ✅ We’ve secured strong representation for the environment and public health with Richard Benwell and Chris Whitty appointed to the commission. And while we can’t say for sure yet, some of the commission's appointments indicate that our campaign to ensure they look into the financial and governance models of the industry has paid off. ✊ Our fight isn’t over. We’ll continue to push back against vested interests that could seek to undermine the needed reforms to end sewage pollution. The commission must do more than just tinker around the edges of the system. We need transformational reform—not more of the same broken system that pollutes for profit. Anything less will not be acceptable to the outraged public. 😡 #BanTheBailouts #EndSewagePollution
