One of my pet peeves is going to a restaurant and being nickel-and-dimed for something as simple as asking for a little extra dressing. It would be one thing if I had already been served an appropriate amount for the size of the salad, but the dressing I ordered to be served on the side came in a small 1.5-ounce portion—the same amount they gave me when I asked for extra, not realizing I would be charged extra. It’s up to the restaurant to establish the proper portion for every item in relation to the size of the entrée. If the standard portion isn’t enough for the dish being served, the solution is to adjust the portion—not charge the guest extra for having to make up the difference.

THIS IS INSANITY. I’m well aware of the homicide investigation involving the human remains, and I agree that it was an important story deserving of public attention. That was never my criticism. My reporting has one goal: to bring attention to victims and encourage accountability. Increased public awareness often leads to new witnesses, new tips, and additional evidence. That’s how journalism and law enforcement frequently complement one another. But instead, you chose to attack me.  Rather than addressing the concerns I raised, your office chose to question whether I’m a “journalist.” This is honestly kind of funny, considering the mainstream media refused to touch this case. I’m the only one who agreed to write a story on it. I never defended the actions of those involved in this brawl. In fact, I’ve consistently condemned the violence. My question has been simple from the beginning: if multiple assaults are visible on video, what is the status of the investigation into everyone involved? If even the victims are not getting answers from you, what makes you think I’m going to get answers from you? I was informed that she was not even given a copy of the police report. I had to provide that to her.  If the answer is that the investigation is ongoing, that’s a perfectly reasonable response. But attempting to discredit the person asking the question instead of addressing it doesn’t inspire public confidence. I genuinely hope additional suspects are identified and held accountable. If my reporting results in witnesses coming forward, then we’ve both accomplished the same goal: justice for the victims.

Of everything that happened during my year at DOGE... This is what I’ll remember most. The first time I visited the Retirements Mine, I didn’t know what to expect. Some of the folks there had spent their entire careers inside that mountain. They were understandably cautious about me and the project at first, but they graciously taught me how everything worked. As I learned from them, I started building little tools to make their jobs easier. At first it was small: a button that saved hours of repetitive data entry. Before long, it became entire digital systems that helped them review retirement cases faster. Looking back, I’m grateful to say we built an incredible partnership. It wasn’t just the folks in the Mine, either. Over the past year, I had the privilege of working alongside retirement executives, engineers, and countless career employees. Every one of them played a role in bringing this effort to life. And then, somewhere along the way, visiting the Mine stopped feeling like a work trip. This might sound ridiculous to say, but over time it started to feel more like coming over for Thanksgiving. And they weren’t asking whether AI was coming. They were pitching ideas for what we should build next. This was a team that had spent decades working with paper. Now here they were, brainstorming how technology and AI could make their work even better. That’s when I realized this effort became real. It wasn't just because we'd gone digital. It was because the people closest to the work were excited to help shape what came next. That’s the kind of thing you can’t fake.
