@Martyupnorth An argument can be made that all the Maritime and / or Atlantic provinces should come together and form one province. It would likely be stronger as a collective. The provinces should not be annexed by Quebec.

@CTVNews This is why immigration is important. The birthrate is not going to dramatically increase enough to offset these losses. Plus, the significant number of young people who leave the province. More has to be done to both attract new people and keep locals.

@stats_feed There are many more numbers and statistics that need to be taken into account before making that statement. Provincial, municipal, and household debt are significant. Canada is struggling economically and shows no signs of turning that around.

🇨🇦 IMF sees Canada's fiscal position as strongest in G7. Canada has a stronger financial position than other G7 countries, many of which carry net debt levels near or above 100% of the size of their economies. Canada net debt-to-gross domestic product ratio is 43%.

@CTVNews Marriage and divorce laws have to be completely overhauled. If these laws were fair or reasonable, it would cut down on intimate partner violence and save lives. Why is polygamy even illegal? If anyone is allowed to get married, why not allow being married to multiple people

@CTVAtlantic Open to buying and actually buying are two different things. This is a noticeable improvement, though. Once there are more cheap options for EVs the ownership rate will increase substantially. High prices are a major discouraging factor. The lower priced Chinese models will help

Regulating LEGAL internet content should be an absolute non-starter. Beware of attempts to impose digital ID under the guise of “keeping kids safe.” It won't just be kids who have to produce their ID to random websites to prove their age — everyone will. This will threaten freedom of expression as well as raise serious privacy and security concerns. nationalpost.com/news/politics/…

@junonewscom The Liberals have been trying to do this for years. Any dissenting opinions will either be censored or criminalized. Removing all ability to have a discussion. The narrative will not be challenged. This is a blatant authoritarian bill that does not belong in a democratic country

@RoyalEndeavour It is a testament to how good the Liberal party is at politics. The LPC has out maneuvered all of the other parties for years. They make all the right moves, and nothing hurts them. It's fascinating that the LPC can be so good at politicking yet so poor at actually governing.

This is how I see it... China is not Communist in the sense that the state owns all the means of production, and there are no market prices (you need at least 2 owners of property for a market to develop). The U.S. is also not Capitalist. We don't have sound money, free markets, and respect for private property. Only hints remain. Both the U.S. and China are a marriage of State & Corporations. The difference is the hierarchy. China's hierarchy is State over Corporations. America's hierarchy is Corporations over the State. The Chinese state clearly puts China first, and corporations have to conform themselves to that. The Chinese trade with the world and don't invade the world. America puts everything but America (and especially Israel) first. America invades the world. The results of both hierarchies are crystal clear. China is thriving. America is bankrupt.

@RealAlbanianPat Typical for Canada. No desire or ability to fix problems. Instead of correcting the causes of people leaving, the government will just make leaving impossible. Maybe people will come to terms with the fact that the economic situation in the country is only going to get worse

@matt_kercher This will result in a digital ID with the goal of removing anonymity from the internet. That is the real goal. The government can then use the new speech laws to persecute anyone with dissenting opinions. Other countries have already done the same thing. This will be no different

@CanadianPolling The LPC and CPC disproportionately benefit from the FPTP system. It contributes to both parties being in power and suppressing smaller parties. They would never change that. They dont respect the will of the electorate and only care about gaining and being in power.

@CTVNews The real purpose of this law is to anonymity from the internet. This will be used with the other censorship and speech crime laws that are in the works. The state will police the internet and persecute anyone with dissenting opinions. This has already happened in other countries

@RealAlbanianPat Most of the political issues can be corrected by replacing FPTP with a proportional representational system. Canada needs election reform. Many people are disillusioned with democracy and more issues are going to arise, but nothing widespread or disruptive to cause real problems

If 9 more MPs cross the floor to the Liberals, the old democratic system will effectively end in this country, both the left and right will become radicalized; even many Liberals will become disillusioned, separatist sentiments will rise, and many people will never vote again.

@FairVoteCanada FPTP keeps the establishment parties in power, creating terrible two party systems. The party that gets in undoes what the previous party enacted repeating this cycle. Barely anything is accomplished, resulting in stagnation. PR lets new parties exist and push innovation

@DavidColetto This is accurate. Younger people's problems are domestic in nature and related to their survival. Young people blame their government for their problems. Older people are focused solely on protecting their wealth. Older people blame external factors for current problems

This sums up what I see regularly in my research about #cdnpoli and life more generally: A 28-year-old precarious renter whose RRSPs barely exist looks at Trump’s threats and sees chaos that is bad for everyone but not specifically worse for him than the status quo already is. VS A 67-year-old with $600,000 in home equity, a DB pension, and a healthcare system she depends on looks at the same threats and sees someone pointing a flamethrower at her life’s work.

@CanadianPolling Canada is not becoming communist. The Liberals have put forth laws that are authoritarian in nature. Laws that give the government unchecked power to persecute people while limiting or removing rights and freedoms. This has also happened in many other capitalist democracies.

@purrlitics A majority achieved through floor crossing will hurt more than help. When the LPC gets a majority and can not fix any of the problems, people will treat them like a party that has been governing for more than a decade. The CPC needs a new leader if they want to make any gains

Hot take: if Carney gets his majority, he will be a one term PM. I think a majority would hurt him more than it would help him.

@WadeLeonard12 @CoopTory The merger hasn't really worked. Vote splitting and the parties competing against each other was also a problem. With no vote splitting and the parties working cooperatively, they would stand much better chances to succeed.

The Canadian right needs to split. The two factions can no longer reside in the same tent. The CPC has been utterly dominated by the classical liberalism & market-dogmatic faction that courted and became hostage to an anti-intellectual, conspiratorial and continentalist base.
