This is all Smits does, should have tried to drive the net there or look for an outlet out front, but just throws it in the corner, brain doesn’t process fast enough with feet. Outstanding speed in neutral zone and wastes it. Biggest bust potential of anyone in this Draft.
BHF@BlackhawksFocus

Impressive rush from Alberts Smits (#3). Could be someone in play for the Blackhawks at No. 4:

@HawkHockey11 @Pete___Hughes He’s supposed to backhand pass it to # 23 but if he was good enough to make that play he’d be a lock for top 3 in draft

@Pete___Hughes This is as classic a pucks in deep play as you can ask for. What space does he have to work with here? How is he going to find a guy in the middle if he's the one ahead of everybody?

@WindmillDynasty @German_Spitfire If “he gave Brady Martin a tough time” is grounds for assessing a players stock then Sam O’Reilly should be a first overall pick

@ThatNuShab @German_Spitfire Sokolovskii is 6’7-240 and gave Brady Martin hell during their playoff series even if they didn’t end up winning it. He also out produced Wang in his draft year, so there’s potential for a similar breakout next year, and he’s a July birthday…

@WindmillDynasty @German_Spitfire You seem to be confusing my question. I am not doubting the assessment. You want to think Soko is all that go ahead. My question this whole time has been: Why is he ranked 13 when Spit himself admits there is a very high level of risk here?

@ThatNuShab @German_Spitfire He’s got the potential to be a tough defender to play against at the pro level. As mentioned, if he continues to develop other facets of his game, his size and defensive ability will give him the potential to be a high impact unicorn player. Chara ceiling is hard to project tho

@ThatNuShab @German_Spitfire Think about Simon Wang last year. Had next to no OHL production and went 33 because he is 6’5-223lbs and moves very well. The puck moving aspect of his game needed considerable work but there were flashes to build on and he ended up turning in a great D+1 in a bigger role.

@WindmillDynasty @German_Spitfire Then why does he need the right team to develop him? Why does he need to improve so much? I’m trying to rationalize the “he is one of the highest upside players in the class” but “he also needs everything to go right.” With that logic, you can say anyone is a top 10 pick

@German_Spitfire @WindmillDynasty So you believe he will get so much better that he laps all these aforementioned names despite having so much to work on and needing the perfect scenario to work?

@ThatNuShab @WindmillDynasty Because development isn’t linear, Sokolovskii is far from a finished product. Yeah everyone of those guys is a better player as a 18 year old, but how about at 25? It’s all about projection, and I project one of the top defensive D in the NHL /w some offensive skill to boot.

@German_Spitfire @WindmillDynasty Ok but that didn’t answer my question. Why rate him over guys like Hermansson or Lawerence or Cullen that have significantly more offensive potential while having results to back it up? Or guys like Goljer or Piiparainen that have similar potential and results at higher levels?

@WindmillDynasty @ThatNuShab Yeah, he shadowed Martin that series and really limited his impact, literal blanket in his own zone. There are flashes of offensive potential there, and if he can realize that potential there is a world he can really be a unicorn.

@German_Spitfire @WindmillDynasty So if he improves his skating and if he can develop his offensive game and if the right team picks and if he progresses linearly then you have the best defender in the class? Why take this risk in the top 15 over the list of guys that are further along and don’t need as much

Stay in a league with kids half your size so you can trick scouts like “The Prospect Don” into thinking you’re better than you are. - Ancient Chinese proverb
The Prospect Don@TheProspectDon

Keaton Verhoeff would have been the #2 overall pick if he would have just stayed in the WHL this year. He looked like a different player his D-1 year in the WHL. His decision making was exposed during his time in the NCAA At this point, I would be shocked if he went #2 tho

Frank, when your wife WITHOLDS permission for you to watch her have sex with her boyfriend instead of DENYING you, what’s the difference?
Frank Seravalli@frank_seravalli

@BR_OpenIce This is inaccurate, please correct. I reported that Vegas has withheld permission and not outright denied. There is nuance and a clear difference.
