@NHL_Watcher Literally none of these players will be half as good as Kucherov or Lindstrom. Craig Button is a failed NHL GM that constantly misses on his prospect predictions and struggles to evaluate talent. He also isn’t really watching their games.

Verhoeff is a good prospect, but how can you put a Ekblad type ahead of a Lidstrom type or Werenski type or a Kucherov type? Has more to do with the top 4 separating themselves from the pack, doesn't mean Verhoeff is not a good prospect.

Button on SC with Jay Onrait discusses why he has Verhoeff dropping to 5 in his draft rankings and uses some comparables to explain his reasoning, says Carels has Lidstrom vibes, Reid has Werenski vibes and Stenberg has Kucherov vibes, Verhoeff has Ekblad vibes.

@vancanuckpain I guess the question for him is are you drafting Kucherov ahead of Lidstrom and Werenski? I assume he values d-men like Lidstrom and Werenski more than one of the greatest wingers of all time

@JFreshHockey I’d love to see his graph for the two WCfs vs Edmonton. Interested if DeBoer had a case with the early pull in game 5

One goaltending performance that doesn't get talked about enough is Oettinger almost singlehandedly taking down the 2021-22 Flames, saving 14 goals above expected in seven games. hockeystats.com/dashboards/goa…

Elite d-men are so much more skilled and involved in the play in the current generation than they were in most prior. Many of these guys would’ve likely been developed as centres 15-20 years ago. Not quite positionless hockey, but a step closer

This season, 14 defensemen lead their team in Net Rating and are doing so at a high-end rate. On the rise of the "MVP defenseman," the Norris threshold rising and what it means for the league. nytimes.com/athletic/71446…

@_NJR3_ @JFreshHockey @Sabremetrix Jarry’s graph craters after his injury. Skinner’s graph looks normal, he usually starts seasons slow (including post seasons) Goalie coaching may also have an impact, or organisational pressure to win.

@JFreshHockey @Sabremetrix I understand expected goals and GSAx, but this feels like there has to be another factor inherent to these two teams that has to explain this

@JasonGregor Well thank god we didn’t trade for one of them when they were available early in the season, like I wanted to. Thank gos we went for Jarry instead.

"Buffalo has two very good goalies. UPL has played like a top 10 goalie the past few months and Lyon is just outside the top 10. I disagree with the notion if you have two, it means you don't have a #1. UPL and Lyon are two very different goalies. Right now they have two guys on a heater and two styles that would force a team to change their pre-scout and I see no reason why the Sabres wouldn't play both in the playoffs," Woodley on @Sports1440

@AdamFly96727825 I’m not saying the oilers win that trade. As of right now, I don’t think there is a trade Oilers can win that includes Tristan Jarry, unless he starts making some saves for them.

@AdamFly96727825 I mean, again, you’ll likely be expending that 1st rounder to dump Jarry anyway, and then further assets if you want a goalie who is an upgrade. Their forward group or D core do not desperately need upgrades that you need to spend a 1st round pick on, just smart depth moves.

This is probably true. Goalies don’t really carry asset value in the league, exceptions occasionally being young top prospects or stars, but even they have lower values than equivalent skaters Whether that still means they should sit on who they got is a different question.
Willyston Riellander@nylanderthews

Mirtle on the Leaf Report says if the Leafs wanted to trade Stolarz, they wouldn’t be able to get anything back, it'd just be moving the contract. He suggests carrying three goalies next year instead Even if they moved Woll, the return wouldn’t be a top pair D or impact F

@AdamFly96727825 The asset is not as much for acquiring Stolarz, but for dumping Jarry without retention. Unless Jarry finds himself in Edmonton, it’s gonna be hard to trade him. I wouldn’t hate a Stolarz - Ingram tandem, feels like the upside is higher than any recent goaltending tandem

@GavalierR Oilers giving up more assets for goalie with a ton of question marks would be absolutely hilarious. Team wouldn't have a first until 2029 and an injury prone 32 year old would be their #1 lol

@JimBiringer @FriedgeHNIC Well a people are saying the precedent is wrong. This is like a country imprisoning people for 1-3 years for murder - it does not matter if you follow a ‘precedent’ if it’s the precedent itself that needs to be changed.

@KevinMcCurdy @_TheIronCowboy Everyone who keeps up with the Oilers should know that. Rewatch the players interviews when Woody was fired, Draisaitl looked more deflated than after playoffs series losses. McDavid regularly referred to him as a “top 5 coach in the league” I never heard him compliment Knob.

@BlugrassFinatic @TopTierPucks Watch Amazon’s inside the NHL series, all Panthers related episode are focused solely on Tkachuk. Barkov is barely mentioned. Tkachuk is the ‘face’ of the team, Barkov is the best player. Whether you like it or not.

Again, he’s the face that makes you mad. If Auston Matthews isn’t the face of USA Hockey then it’s Jack Hughes at this current time. Tkachuk is boisterous and has a podcast. That doesn’t make him the face of either team. He just bothers you. It’s okay little buddy. Sasha Barkov is and will remain the face of the Florida Panthers, as long as he continues to wear the C and conduct himself like the Captain and leader he is.
