First, Tunde Onakoya isn’t a political award body handing out chessboards to the “best” politicians in education. His work is more about impact on the streets than validating political figures. Not every move has to be framed as endorsement or rejection. And linking who he’s seen with to some hidden agenda feels like a stretch. In Nigeria, proximity doesn’t always equal loyalty it can just be access, networking, or keeping doors open to push his cause. As for the “apolitical” label, it might not be cowardice… it could just be strategy. Staying neutral can sometimes be the only way to keep support from different sides, especially when your work depends on it. If anything, the real question might be: do you want activists to pick sides publicly, or do you want them to keep influencing whoever is in power? Sometimes you don’t get both.

Nobody has invested in education more than Peter Obi in the Nigerian political space, so why hasn’t Tunde Onakoya presented him with a chessboard? And he claims to be apolitical but steady chilling with Seyi Tinubu. I respect people who are bold enough to take a stand. This “I’m apolitical” posture, while your actions clearly suggest otherwise, comes across as nothing more than quiet cowardice.
