i'm hyped for the next openai and anthropic models and hoping both "spud" and "mythos" will be good enough to push us into the "intelligence explosion", or can at least help make the model that gets us there not expecting it yet, but it feels like it's just around the corner

Why i'm really excited for GPT-5.5 "Spud" As you know: OpenAI just finished pretraining its next major model, codenamed Spud. Altman told staff they expect a "very strong model" in weeks that can "really accelerate the economy." To free up compute, they're killing Sora entirely, even losing Disney's $1B investment over it. That's how much they're betting on this. However: *completing pretraining* from scratch means OpenAI built an *entirely new foundation*: new architecture, new data mix, new scale. This isnt a finetune or iteration on GPT-4. Greg Brockman's scaling org is running this, and Altman literally stepped back from safety oversight to focus on datacenter buildout and supply chains. Everything at OpenAI is now pointed at one thing: shipping Spud and the products on top of it. Really really excited for it.

Karpathy’s “LLM Wiki” pattern: stop using LLMs as search engines over your docs. Use them as tireless knowledge engineers who compile, cross-reference, and maintain a living wiki. Humans curate and think. Diagram generated by my Claude agent knowledge worker.

Wow, this tweet went very viral! I wanted share a possibly slightly improved version of the tweet in an "idea file". The idea of the idea file is that in this era of LLM agents, there is less of a point/need of sharing the specific code/app, you just share the idea, then the other person's agent customizes & builds it for your specific needs. So here's the idea in a gist format: gist.github.com/karpathy/442a6… You can give this to your agent and it can build you your own LLM wiki and guide you on how to use it etc. It's intentionally kept a little bit abstract/vague because there are so many directions to take this in. And ofc, people can adjust the idea or contribute their own in the Discussion which is cool.

one thing i've been thinking about since openai biggest funding rounds in history: it's been a bad week for the "anti-ai crowd" "openai is cooked" sora gets shut down, and they treat that one move like it means AI is collapsing but sure, the collapse is coming any second now

One person, 2 months, $20K bootstrap, no VC, vibe-coded software. $1.8B company. We’re about to see more such 1-person billion-dollar companies. AI is compressing 5 years of building, launching, scaling a team, and fundraising into a solo high-agency CEO + 2 months.

I think it’s impossible to blame ai for an err because it can’t be held accountable . so even when ai is the one doing most of the work, a human still has to be the one responsible if something goes wrong this actually makes me bullish on longevity of humans in the loop

- Drafted a blog post - Used an LLM to meticulously improve the argument over 4 hours. - Wow, feeling great, it’s so convincing! - Fun idea let’s ask it to argue the opposite. - LLM demolishes the entire argument and convinces me that the opposite is in fact true. - lol The LLMs may elicit an opinion when asked but are extremely competent in arguing almost any direction. This is actually super useful as a tool for forming your own opinions, just make sure to ask different directions and be careful with the sycophancy.

We are running our Claw platform on Opus 4.6 It's totally untenable and expensive. We may have to switch to MiniMax or Kimi and degrade performance 😭 This is a HUGE $2T opportunity for someone to develop a cheap agentic model - cc Elon Musk!

I created an account on X in 2024 just for fun and out of pure curiosity, to talk and discuss about AI with like-minded people. The fact that just two years later I’m able to attend NVIDIA’s GTC in San Jose in person and report from there still feels both unbelievable and surreal to me; same applies for me being a co-founder of a successful newsletter (I quit my 9to5 end 2025). It fills me with a deep sense of humility and gratitude. Especially that I can make a living doing what brings me the most joy. Just do what you love. Of course, I’ll be sharing live updates every day and will cover all the news in greater depth in my newsletter. Thank you.
