I had the honor of representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT GCFR at the 45th Convocation Ceremony of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. It is encouraging to see ABU consistently fulfilling its vision and mission. I call on the university to continue aligning with the Federal Government’s Tertiary Institutions Governance and Transparency Programme, aimed at strengthening accountability, transparency, and data-driven governance in our tertiary education system. This reform is central to modernising higher education and restoring public trust under the Renewed Hope Agenda. I commend the university management for reducing rising electricity costs through effective energy conservation and urge them to pursue a robust, practical energy policy for sustainable power management. I congratulate the new graduates, their parents and guardians, the university council, management, faculty, and staff for making this success possible. I warmly congratulate Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala @NOIweala GCON on the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Science degree, a well-deserved recognition of her outstanding contributions to leadership, education, national development, and her inspiring life of service to Nigeria.

ABU Zaria students just made history! See how they welcomed Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director‑General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) & former Finance Minister of Nigeria.

The Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, attended the 45th convocation ceremony of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, on Saturday, 31 January 2026.

Fun facts: Her father, a Professor of History from the same institution, is one of the pioneering professors from my place. Her mother is also a professor. Let me quote my uncle, @Pastoralist1, on this: “The Hamman family occupies a unique place in ABU’s history as the first family with three professors at the university. Her father, Professor Mahmoud Hamman, was a renowned historian, former Commissioner, former Director of Arewa House, and a pioneer of key ABU social and market institutions. Her mother, Professor Khadija Mahmoud, is a distinguished Educational Psychologist and advocate for inclusive education, gender equity, and child development, while her brother, Dr. Yusuf Mahmoud, is a Political Scientist who followed the same ABU educational path to the Ph.D. level.”

Indeed, they are a true ABU family of learned minds, also a lineage deeply rooted in scholarship, teaching and service to knowledge. Their stories reflect the enduring academic culture of ABU, where excellence, mentorship and institutional loyalty are values and a way of life.
