@McLaughlin_1888 A great Celt that i initially took a dislike to. Completely unfairly because he wore number 6 on his shorts when I was aged 6 but I so much wanted to be 7 to match the number on Jinky's shorts.

When Jim owned Wintersgills pub, I captained his football team. One day a 'sanddancer' turned up and within minutes Jim subbed him. He was calling Jim everything - "Whit do YOU know aboot fitba, baldy auld man..??!!"
His face when I told him that Jim played in 1970 EC Final😀😃

Jim Brogan captains Celtic in the 1975 Glasgow Cup final which was his last game for Celtic. Big Latchford with hoops clearly beneath his goalie jersey.

@MartinBackPage @seanmcdonald01 Morrison's is actually on the site of Barr & Stroud. Westerlands was the other side of Anniesland train station and now housing.
English

@seanmcdonald01 That's Westerlands (Westies), the old Glasgow Uni playing fields. Now Morrison's supermarket

Anyone able to identify the pitch?

Anniesland has a claim Haw Haw gave a shout out to the little toyshop in Anniesland when referring to the work being done in Barr & Stroud for the war effort. Not strictly a visit but good to have the top PR guy mention us.

Swedish women’s football icon Hedvig Lindahl announced that she is rejecting the invitation from FIFA to join the list of FIFA legends. The decision comes in protest against the use of her image to promote the "Peace Award," while also calling on the international community to condemn the killing of football players and the ongoing genocide in Gaza. In an official statement, Lindahl emphasized that sport cannot be used to cover up serious human rights violations, stressing the importance of holding those responsible for crimes against civilians accountable.

“Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go 10,000 miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on Brown people in Vietnam while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs and denied simple human rights? No I’m not going 10,000 miles from home to help murder and burn another poor nation simply to continue the domination of white slave masters of the darker people the world over. This is the day when such evils must come to an end. I have been warned that to take such a stand would cost me millions of dollars. But I have said it once and I will say it again. The real enemy of my people is here. I will not disgrace my religion, my people or myself by becoming a tool to enslave those who are fighting for their own justice, freedom and equality. If I thought the war was going to bring freedom and equality to 22 million of my people they wouldn’t have to draft me, I’d join tomorrow. I have nothing to lose by standing up for my beliefs. So I’ll go to jail, so what? We’ve been in jail for 400 years.”
Did not box professionally for over 4 years at the peak of his career for refusing to go to Vietnam.
And he's still the greatest!

@ThatEricAlper Anyone ever successfully claim against the lifetime guarantee?

@Stephen4_2 All round footballer. Well-known as a centre half as well, and could play in midfield too,

GB News’ recent Trump interview was outrageous - completely biased and full of lies. And GB News didn't challenge him ONCE. Ofcom MUST investigate them for breaching its rules. Sign now if you agree. 38d.gs/trump_gbnews_tw

I'm dubious about the effectiveness of petitions, but this petition against Starmer's compulsory ID card scheme reaching half a million in less than a day is a sign he's in big trouble

Paul Laverty's post-release statement shows his legal training and deep humanity. He must have run rings around them in the police station. Not a hint of terrorism, violent intent or antisemitism on display here. Surely the charge cannot stand.

@geopoetic @PoliceScotland Wow! They chose the wrong one to make an example of.

@ClydeSSB Frimpong also scored on the first weekend of the EPL and played in the SPFL.

@oakroyd @m_jivetoaster I'm fairly sure the street parallel to GWR was called Caxton Street or Place but can't see it now on Google maps. This was before Morrison's and Barr & Stroud had buildings all the way down.
English

@TheBigShift @m_jivetoaster Quite possible because it would be strange for it to exist for so long.
English

@oakroyd @m_jivetoaster I read somewhere that the gap always existed as it was the entry/exit to Caxton Print which did a lot of printing for the University of Glasgow.
English

@m_jivetoaster It was a gap site at least from 1906 to the 1960s. Residential flats now above the shops.
