Life update: I have breast cancer! I found the lump over the holidays, shortly after surgery for a missed miscarriage. It’s been a rough seven weeks since I was diagnosed. I completed one round of IVF, which failed, and am 6 days post-surgery for a lumpectomy to remove my tumor.

The homogeneously enhancing meningioma in the left side of the posterior fossa, contiguous to the widely patent left sigmoid sinus, is slightly less wide (transverse diameter) than on study of 8/3/2024

Well, it has been a tough seven years dealing with my meningiomic friend in my head but I am pretty hopeful that the Gamma Knife will allow me to ignore it for a little while. One in four pregnancies end in miscarriage. We are so uncomfortable watching others face something that is sadly very common. Suffering in silence will kill you, so I choose to suffer out loud. The ugly ass trolls can choke.

Life update: My first semester as an assistant professor, I was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer and spent the last 3 months in chemotherapy. An absolutely brutal experience, but I just celebrated my first clean scan & am excited to start next semester from a better place.

@becksnyc2wv @f_ecominga Those are hanging Berlese/Tullgren funnels. Leaf litter is sifted on site (discarding large pieces of leafy debris). The small fraction is then put on a screen in these funnels, the light overhead driving critters downward to an alcohol-filled whirlpak.

Just back from a fantastic leaf litter sampling in the cloud forests of a couple @f_ecominga reserves along Rio Pastaza. Spectacular scenery, and I eagerly await the results as the Berleses do their thing.
