@georgehahn The fart analogy is like saying "If I can hit you with a marble through a chain link fence, what makes you think the fence is going to protect you if I throw a basketball?!?"

@ryanflorence I had to write a custom caching wrapper around emotion to deal with react re-render css in js issues. Perf for css-in-js is too often dismissed as not an issue, but I've seen it become an issue more than once in the wild.

@MsWendyKH This feels like a 1st amendment violation. Say something the government doesn't like so the government seeks to cause financial harm in an effort to punish the statement? Especially in a citizen's united world.

I have to say while I loathe the idea of giving a single $ to Hobby Lobby or Chik-fil-A, it would be a cold day in hell before you'd see me supporting revenge legislation on them. Jenna isn't wrong here.

Former Trump attorney Jenna Ellis attacks Desantis: “Do we really want the govt to have a precedent that it can retaliate against a corp because it doesn’t like a statement that corp makes? .. We know that FL is retaliating against Disney .. because they have admitted it.”

@Accomp I have very fond memories of tanking for covert to mythic, it was a really one of a kind experience.

Man do I miss the old days of #Warcraft, during the prime of the #ConvertToRaid community. I've yet to have an MMO experience that matched those early days and the sense of family it created.

@Accomp I always put goldfish in my chili or soup. Never regret it.

Pretty good actually. Gives the desired texture, with a hint of cheese as well!

I just put Goldfish in my Caesar salad because I didn't have any croutons.

@dan_abramov I think it dates back to block scope issues with var. at least that's how I remember it...

@Accomp Toss an entire bag of frozen fries in 1/4 cup oil and a generous amount of salt and they come out as good as and in some cases better than restaurant fries (not fast food, fast food still does it better)

@hussien_coding @acemarke In my experience, redux hate tends to stem from a poor, over complicated implementation. I'm with you, the tool is so simple.

Redux gets a lot of hate, but in 2015 a lot of libraries were fighting to be the go to Flux lib at the time. The reason I think Redux became so popular was that it was so easy to understand. Even today, the maintainer @acemarke is just a tweet away. Always making it better 🙏🏼

@BeijingPalmer I see the logic, but people in the suburbs tend to make friends with their neighbors and walk to each other's yards or community spaces to hang out spontaneously. Neighborhoods create close community pockets similar to cities.

For TBC, I'll have a 60 Rogue and 60 Prot Pally. Opinions on what class would be most useful to boost? (gold making, maybe?)

@dan_abramov UE4 blueprints do a really good job of providing abstraction tools in node based programming. You can build macros, functions, sub-graphs, and libraries out of all of the above that can be shared across other blueprints

I think React hooks look great in simple demos but cause problems when used in larger apps. You lose the mental model, clarity, and traceability of lifecycle methods. I just don't think the pros outweigh the cons, sorry.

@HenrikJoreteg @wycats I can't grasp that the useEffect is often used with an empty array as the second argument. From the API design perspective that's an awful design. First to of all, what does "effect" even mean in a webapp context? Secondly, what does an empty array is doing there? Seriously...

How old were you when you realised it's called "firmware" because it's halfway between "hardware" and "software"?

@onlinealchemist I like them both, but for me it was the comprehensive battle tested toolset that UE4 comes with. C++ was a downside for me, I would rather use a more modern language, but that downside is mitigated by blueprints and access to the engine source code

Mike Sellers - always working on N+1 projects
Question I raised earlier today: from a game dev's POV (i.e., someone intent on putting out an actual game), what's the use case where you'd choose Unreal over Unity? Is it just "I know Unreal" or "I can't make this game unless I use C++" or is there another clear case?
